Did This Lady Poison Her Boss With Apple? Read Her Story
Life for 23-year-old Oluchi Obi in the last three months has been one tough journey of suffering...
An Imo State indigene, Obi just wanted to make a living as a housemaid
when she got lucky and got a job through an agent in the Ajah area of
Lagos.“All I needed to do was to take care of the household and the man’s three children,” she said.
Obi’s boss, 47-year-old Frank Ikoh, was said to be ill at the time while his siblings were also on hand to take care of him in the house...
They said they just needed the housemaid to take care of the children and other chores in the house.
But that seemingly simple job would later land Obi in detention for 39 days on accusation that she was the one who murdered her boss with a poisoned apple barely one month after she got to the house.
The late Mr Ikoh, who lived with his children in VGC, Ajah, was said to have separated from his ex-wife, Nkechi Nnadi, six years earlier.
The family lawyer said he was down with an illness, which gave him recurrent headache even before Obi was employed as a housemaid.
Obi said apart from her, the man’s sister and brother were also living in the house and taking care of him.
But on December 28, Mr Ikoh passed away.
According to Punch, the family lawyer, Mr. Courage Erhuen, said on January 12, two weeks after Ikoh’s death, a team of policemen with the deceased’s ex-wife in tow, invaded the house and shot teargas into the compound “under the guise of effecting an arrest of a suspect for the murder of our client.”
That day, Obi was arrested by the police, while the ex-wife allegedly marched into Ikoh’s bedroom with the assistance of policemen and took possession of a safe, which the family lawyer said contained Ikoh’s personal effects and vital documents.
Obi said the day she was arrested, she was preparing the children for school when the policemen came.
“Everywhere was filled with teargas. Everybody, including the children and oga’s (Ikoh’s) siblings, was coughing badly. So, we had to move out. I was shocked when the policemen mentioned my name and said they were looking for me. They took me into custody and the woman took her children away that day,” she said.
According to Obi, she was told when she was locked up at the State Criminal Investigation Department that a petition had been filed by the man's ex-wife Nkechi, who alleged that she was the one who gave her ex-husband a poisoned apple before he died.
Obi said, “I had never seen her before until that day. I was shocked and did not know why she would make such an allegation against me when she had not even met me before.
“I told the police that I had never brought apple to the house. Apart from that, the man had been sick before I was employed. The man was not even the kind of a person who collected anything to eat from people anyhow. How could he possibly have collected apple from me?
“The woman told the police that somebody must have given me the poisoned apple to feed to him. She told them that the report she got was that the children even wanted to eat part of the apple but that I refused. I don’t know what brought about those lies.
“I told them all these, yet, they detained me in their terrible cell for almost six weeks. They said until they determined what really killed the man, they would not free me. I was in the house with the man’s brother and sister and they all knew I had nothing to do with his death, yet the police acted only on what the woman told them.”
Mr Erhuen, who is now representing Obi along with the Ikoh family, said he was surprised that the police could just arrest people based on an unfounded report from someone who has no evidence of crime and lock the suspect up for six weeks.
While Obi was in custody at the SCID, the report of the autopsy invalidating any claim of foul play in the death of the man came out but yet, they did not release the young woman until the intervention by a former NDDC director effected her release.
AUTOPSY RESULT
A copy of the result of the autopsy conducted on the deceased’s body at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, which was signed by one Dr. Mgbehoma Ikenna, showed the primary cause of death as “acute left ventricular failure” while the secondary cause was identified as “hypertensive heart disease”.
On January 28, the late Ikoh’s lawyer, filed a petition at the office of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police calling for the release of Obi and the personal property of the late Ikoh carted away by the police on the orders of the wife. Again on February 22, another petition was sent to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID, Yaba.
Mr Erhuen said no action was taken on the matter on both times. Apart from demanding the release of the belongings of Ikoh reportedly taken away, the lawyer is calling on police authorities to take necessary action to remedy the untold hardship brought against the lady as a result of the false accusation against her.
“The police and the ex-wife openly boasted that they were well connected within the corridors of power at the police high command. When they invaded the house, the deceased’s siblings and relatives tried to stop them from taking the man’s safe away, but the police descended on them and beat them up,” he said.
Attempts to get hold of the deceased’s ex-wife have been abortive as an individual who picked her phone said she did not know anyone by that name.
The lawyer said he had approached the Lagos State High Court, to seek the release of the personal properties of the deceased taken away by the police. He also said he would be demanding the sum of N10m as compensation from the police for the unlawful detention of the young lady.

Court Orders Documents on British Police Corruption released to Ibori
A British Crown Court has ordered the immediate release of documents and other materials uncovered by James Ibori's former solicitor Gohil Bhadresh suggesting that British Metropolitan Police Officers investigating James Ibori, fraudulently obtained materials and documents against Gohil Bhardesh and James Ibori.
A press statement from Tony Eluemunor, Chief Ibori’s Media
Assistant, said that His Honour Judge Tester of Southwark Crown Court on Friday
directed the prosecution to comply with his order made on January 21st this
year and release to James Ibori's counsels the documents. The prosecution had
initially refused to release the documents and other materials which suggested
police involvement in corruption and fraud in the James Ibori's and Gohil Bhadresh's
case.
This order followed the dramatic turn of event in the case
brought by the Crown Prosecution against Gohil accusing him of attempt to
pervert the course of justice but which the crown prosecution dropped following
damaging and incriminating documents uncovered by Gohil Bhadresh which the
Prosecution had lied ever existed.
The allegations of corruption and documents suggesting
thousands of pound sterling were paid into the bank account of the
investigating police officers involved in the case and attempt by both the
crown prosecution and the British Police to cover up this grave misconducts
have greatly damaged the credibility of materials and documents relied upon by
the crown and police in this case. Subsequently, all the crown prosecutors and
police officers handling the case have been removed from the case.
According to the statement, a new vista has opened in the
Ibori London trial, as James Ibori's former solicitor, Gohil Bhadresh has
approached the court of appeal to quash his conviction because the Police and
the crown prosecution may have misled the court and have been neck deep in corruption.
This new development may totally change this whole case as the new documents
suggesting Police misconduct in the handling of the case may mean the last has
not been heard in James Ibori's trial in London.

Appeal Court upholds Ibinabo Fiberesima's five year jail term
The case went to court and the Igbosere magistrate court sentenced her to five years in prison with an option of N100k fine. Ibinabo apologized to the man's family, paid the N100k fine and thought the case was over but the Lagos state government objected to the fine and took the case to a high court...
The High Court then said that the Magistrate court was reckless when they gave Ibinabo an option of fine for such an offence. The High court judge tossed out the N100k option and sentenced Ibinabo to five years in prison, saying that such an offence - reckless and dangerous driving which causes another person's death is liable to 7 years in prison. Ibinabo's N100k was subsequently given back to her.
So she and her lawyers took the case to court of Appeal, asking the court of appeal, Lagos Division, to set aside the prison sentence and restore the sentence she received from the magistrate court (N100k) but unfortunately, at the judgement that took place today March 11th, the court upheld the high court ruling and dismissed Ibinabo's appeal, saying it lacked merit.
Ibinabo was in court today and reportedly wept when judgment was passed. She and her lawyers are now heading to the Supreme court to appeal. If they fail at the Supreme Court, the AGN president will be spending the next few years in prison.

We don't need 36 state governors and their deputy- Sanusi calls for natioanal restructuring
Sanusi said this while speaking at the inaugural lecture and launching of a N250 million endowment fund for the Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, Department of Political Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, yesterday March 10th.
"If you really reflect on the problems of this country, it seems to turn common sense on its head. You sometimes wonder if anyone needs to tell any group of people that if you are a poor country, you do not need 36 governors, 36 deputy governors, with members of house of assembly, commissioners and advisers, Special assistants, a president, a vice president, 36 ministers, special advisers, federal legislature and so on. Simple arithmetic will tell you that if you have that structure, you are first of all doomed to spending 80 or 90 per cent of everything you earn maintaining public officers.
It is really common sense but it seems to be a problem for us to understand it,” he added.

Gallant Soldiers Catch Boko Haram Most Notorious Leader
According to Army sources, a gang of Boko Haram were intercepted at a fishing community known as Daban-Masara in Kukawa area of Borno while trying to ferry over 200 litres of Petrol.
The insurgents, led by their arrested leader, who was labelled Number “95” on the ‘100 Wanted Terrorists’ list, attempted to resist the Troops of 7 Multinational Joint Task Force Brigade’s stationed in Baga and 118 Task Force Battalion, but were effectively overwhelmed.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, confirmed the development and said the troops “sprang an ambush along Daban Masara axis usually used by Boko Haram terrorists elements to convey logistics on Thursday.
“At the encounter, one of the suspected wanted Boko Haram terrorists leaders who is serial number 95 on the first Nigerian Army wanted list of 100 Boko Haram terrorists leaders, was fatally wounded in the exchange of fire.
“He later gave up while receiving medical attention at the base, while other members of his team escaped with gun shot wounds. The troops recovered 7 Jerri cans of 30 litres containing 210 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), motorcycles and food stuff in addition to arms and ammunitions”.
It was gathered that the dead leader of the Boko Haram had been a major motivational sub-leader of the insurgents in that axis of Borno.
REPLY TO AWUJALE: Where You Got it Wrong on the Yoruba Oba's Ranking
Awujale Was Wrong by Oracle
I am disappointed Awujale of Ijebu story did not include his root from Whadah with no connection with the DNA of Oduduwa.Among Oduduwa children Awujale has no seat, he is just a tolerated king in Yorubaland without the true blood of Oduduwa.
Alake came to Abeokuta as a KING and as a descendant of the direct sixteen children of Oduduwa who finally settled in Abeokuta.
If Alaafin was chased out of Old Oyo Empire after the Fulani attacked Oyo Ile will that destroy his role as first among equals when he finally found another location in the present Oyo town?
NO!
For Awujale to down grade Alake to junior king is to show that he got too comfortable with history and forgot how he manipulated his ways into the hearts of Oduduwa children, trust me, he has just reopened the primitive war files between the Egba and Ijebu. And it is not going to look good.
Awujala should stay away from the history of the Egba because the history is about the children of Oduduwa not where they relocated to after wars, he can't use internal politics in Abeokuta to score a political point.
Awujale was economical with the true position of Alake as a direct descendant of Oduduwa and the politics of the Egba.
Alake supported his position with a 1937 photograph with Ooni, Oba of Benin, Awujale, Alake , at the grade of the Kings in Yorubaland. Awujale did his own with the hatred between the Egba and Ijebu before colonization. I am disappointed in him.

UPDATE: Saraki Delays His CCT Trial Again
A case of jurisdiction which Bukola Saraki and his lawyers dragged from Tribunal to Appeal court and to Supreme court and were defeated, he changed lawyers and brought in Kanu Agabi, another SAN.
Guess what? When the case resumed today, Kanu Agabi says he's challenging that same jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal and as such the trial of Saraki cannot go on until that is first heard.
OluFamous.Com observed that efforts by Government lawyer, Rotimi Amaechi (SAN) to tell the court that this is another delay tactics by Saraki and his lawyers where frustrated as Kanu Agabi was making joke with Rotimi Jacobs in the open court, asking him 'Rotimi, should I beg you'?
Rotimi Jacobs complained that he has come under different forms of attacks and intimidation in the course of prosecuting Bukola Saraki. But Agabi threw the court into another laughter as he embarked on what seemed a charm offensive, declaring his love for the active federal government lawyer.
Justice Umar intervened and asked the defence counsel, Agabi, to serve the prosecution the motion on the challenge of the Tribunal’s jurisdiction afresh.
Jacobs said ok, the Tribunal should adjourn till Monday for argument of the fresh application.
But Agabi again asked for adjournment till next week Friday, arguing that as an old man who will be 70 soon, he would not be able to respond to the prosecutor’s brief on time. Just imagine!
When the drama became too much, Justice Umar had no choice but to adjourn the case to Friday, 18 March, 2016 for moving of the motion and possible hearing of the jurisdiction matter all over again.
Rotimi Jacobs reacted:
“The defendant [Saraki] keeps saying that there is no case against him and that he is being persecuted. Why doesn’t he let the trial start so that the whole world can see the persecution?”Don't be surprise if Saraki change his legal team again at the end of another 6 months, when they finish the case of jurisdiction, claiming Kanu Agabi is too old and they start afresh. That's Nigeria for you!
Unbelievable! Jonathan’s Government Blew N2.2b On Prayers
Jonathan’s administration blew the cash on special prayers in Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.
The cash was disbursed through the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), following a proposal by a former Executive Director of the NNPC, Aminu Baba-Kusa.
Baba-Kusa, in his statement of witness filed in the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), is facing trial with a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) and three others.
The others are Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited (owned by Baba-Kusa) and a former Director of Finance in ONSA, Shuaibu Salisu.
In the statement, Baba-Kusa said the N2.2billion was spent on prayers to hasten the defeat of Boko Haram.
The cash was released in two tranches of N1,450,000,000 and N750,000,000.
Baba-Kusa confessed to EFCC investigators that the contract proposal was verbal. He has promised to refund the N2.2billion by disposing of his assets.
Baba-Kusa said: “I approached the former NSA and discussed Boko Haram problems and I suggested there is need for prayers and he considered and accepted in 2013 when he first came to office.
“I personally sponsored many people locally and some few to Saudi Arabia. Some monies were later paid into our companies, which we paid to some of the mallams.
“I then arranged to recover my personal expense which I put into our own businesses.
“We have been spending a lot from our businesses and personal accounts. Money paid through UBA, First Bank and ECOBANK. For Acacia Holdings Limited(A/C 1017330319-UBA); ECOBANK(0122012650); and First Bank(Reliance Referral Hospitals Limited A/C 2022394057). The total amount is N2,200,000,000 from October 2014 to April 2015.”
He told detectives that he is not an expert, “but I used some of the mallams to organise in Abuja, Zaria, Kano, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Kaduna and Saudi Arabia covering 2013 to 2015.”
He added: “I give them funds as required from time to time, ranging from N500,000 to N30million, depending on their needs, traveling, sadaqat and others for local expenses and travels to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Hajj.
“I reminded the NSA many times before payments were made. We grew up together with the former NSA with common friends in ABU.
“Most of the payments in cash were meant to give out cash to people that have been organising prayers. Some transfers to Acacia to other banks were for logistics and also to some mallams in cash.”
The suspect also confirmed that the prayer contract was not documented.
He added: “The proposal made to the former NSA was not documented by him or myself. The verbal proposal to him was for prayers to overcome Boko Haram within the shortest possible time.
“The engagement for prayers by organising some people to be praying was not formally written down. There was no amount of money agreed on. I said to him, I will start organising, which he agreed and said he will see what he would give at a later time."
Baba-Kusa said he had an estimate of over N700million spent “from my own resources before I started to ask for money from him”. Some of these funds came from disposal of some of my land in Abuja. One in Maitama, one in Gudu and one in Guzape. The Maitama was a little over N200million; Guzape (N80m), Gudu(N18m), he told the EFCC.
But, according to him, he kept no records of the money he gave to individual Mallams organising various groups. I requested for no acknowledgement from them when I gave money to them.”
He assured the EFCC that he would refund the said cash if he is able to dispose of his landed properties.
He said: “I am making efforts to dispose of my properties in Abuja which would be over the total amount of N2.2billion. If the sales go through and the amount from the sales is made in full, I will make full payment.”

Because of Piss? Mechanic kills Friend for Urinating near shop
Trouble started in the park around 11am on Tuesday between Oshare and the friend, identified as Rasta, after he (Rasta) allegedly urinated beside a stationary truck.
Oshare challenged the deceased for messing up the spot, said to be a few steps from his shop. As Rasta tried to calm him, he reportedly slapped him, which led to a scuffle.
According to Punch, the mechanic, who was livid with anger, grabbed two bottles and stabbed the friend in the neck. He was also said to have injured some people who attempted to caution him.
Rasta reportedly bled from his injuries and he was rushed to a hospital for treatment. He, however, died before he could get help. Many shops in the park have remained closed out of fear.
A trader, Mrs. Ufom Benedict, said she tried to stop Oshare when he rushed to her shop, looking for knife.
The Chairman of the park, Mr. Martins Animashaun, said allowing traders into the park also contributed to the incident. He added that miscreants had turned the park into a hideout.
He said, “There was problem between two friends. Along the line, one died and the other one was rushed to the hospital. They are not our members. I was in the office yesterday (Tuesday) when I saw people running around and I called the police. They are still investigating the matter.
“Here is a state government-owned park and it is porous. If it is secured, we can manage people inside it. When we leave in the evening, some miscreants come here to sleep. This place is solely earmarked for a park, but along the line, the local government allowed traders into the park and turned it into a market. The more people come in, the more the problem we have. We want this park to be sanitised.”
Police say Oshare is unconscious and at a hospital where he is under arrest.
