NNPC To Be Split Into 30 Companies To Make More Money

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is set to be split into 30 profit-making companies, so said the the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Ibe Kachikwu. The minister also disclosed that each of the thirty companies would have its own managing director.

His words: “For the first time, we are unbundling the subset of the NNPC to 30 independent companies with their own Managing Directors.” 

Mr. Kachikwu said this in his address at the 25th Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum in Abuja.

 

“Titles like Group Executive Directors are going to disappear and in their place you are going to have Chief Executive Officers and they are going to take responsibilities for their titles. At the end of the day, the CEO of an upstream company must deliver an upstream result.”

The Federal Government’s plan to unbundle the NNPC is expected to happen in a matter of weeks.

Leader of APGA, Victor Umeh, Arrested by SSS Over Alleged Sponsor of Biafra

Immediate past National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and candidate for Anambra Central senatorial election, Chief Victor Umeh, has allegedly been arrested by men of the Department of State Services, DSS, over support for the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

It was gathered that Umeh was invited to the headquarters of DSS at Amawbia at about 9.00 and after about two hours, was taken out of the office in a pick-up van en-route Abuja. 

It was gathered that the security officials were said to have received petitions that Umeh was among those who are secretly supporting the pro-Biafra agitators whose leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, is still being detained by the security operatives. 

A source close to Umeh said: “I am right now at Aguluzigbo, the country home of Chief Victor Umeh. His wife told me that he was arrested in the morning by men of the security service and taken to their state headquarters. 

“But at about 11 am, he was taken from the state headquarters to Abuja in a pick-up van. It was alleged that there were petitions against him that he supports IPOB. We don’t know who may have sponsored the petitions, but there are accusing fingers on some of his known political opponents..."

Oshiomhole Replies Dino Melaye: You Talk Anyhow

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has dismissed Senator Dino Melaye as vainglorious and childish after the senator representing Kogi West mocked the governor for marrying a non-Nigerian.

His comment did not go down well with Oshiomhole who hit back at the senator who he said was renown 'for his vainglorious rodomontade and the childish display of his ostentatious lifestyle'.

Such lifestyle, the governor added, complements Melaye’s “love for foreign items.”

Oshiomhole, speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Peter Okhiria, said Melaye displayed hollowness by delving into a matter as private as his marriage to his heartthrob.

The senator, he added, exposed himself as a simpleton and court jester whose words and tactlessness could not be taken seriously by mature people.

He advised Melaye to mend his ways with his ex-wife and concubines before coming to the village square to display “crass ignorance and emptiness to the Nigerian people.”

“If he has anything to offer, Dino Melaye should concentrate on making good laws for the people of Nigeria rather than descend to a ridiculous level, thus displaying to the whole world his unworthiness to sit in the hallowed chambers of the Nigerian Senate.

He wondered how Melaye “could descend to this pedestrian level of using the hallowed chambers to ‘cargorise’ women as if they were pieces of items for purchase.

“Any responsible individual that is truly worth to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum and decent public conduct, should know the limits of his verbal diarrhea. The liberty of free speech guaranteed in the hallowed chambers does not impose lunacy on anyone to disparage other Nigerians, let alone pry into their matrimony in a very derisive manner.

“We had intended to ignore this uncomplimentary comment as one of the several empty displays of the Senator, but the fact that it tends to reduce women to pieces of tissue calls for this response.

“As we probed into Dino Melaye’s humanity, we were reminded that he is a man known for his vainglorious rodomontade and the childish display of his ostentatious lifestyle complements his love for foreign items."

Celebration In Ibadan As New Olubadan Is Crowned (Photos)

46 days after the demise of the last Olubadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, his successor Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, ascended the throne on Friday and immediately tabled a list of his demands before government.

Oba Adetunji who adopted the title of Aje Ogunguniso 1 pleaded for the creation of Ibadan State and also made a case for the upgrading of the Ibadan airport to international status.

He urged the National Leader of the ruling APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu,who was among the many prominent Nigerians at the event, to help him in getting the deeds done.

“I beg Bola Tinubu as a key personality in this government to assist us on these issues,” the Olubadan said in Yoruba, moment after receiving his letter and staff of office which were symbols of authority.

Present at the event were Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos).

Also in attendance were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulu Gambari and the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akinolu, as well as top politicians, religious leaders, businessmen.

As Much As $20bn Idle In Big Men’s Domiciliary Accounts

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has raised the alarm that about $20bn (N3.94tn) was lying idle in different domiciliary accounts of wealthy people in Nigeria.

The Deputy Governor, Financial System Surveillance, CBN, Dr. Joseph Nnana, said this at a meeting of the Joint Appropriation Committees of National Assembly with government officials on the 2016 budget.

Nnana said, “Distinguished chairman sir, we have $20bn lying idle in various domiciliary accounts of many customers at the various banks across the country. This is part of the reasons why the naira has continued to slide against the US dollar.”

He said some privileged Nigerians were behind the consistent slide in the value of the naira by embarking on dollar speculation to the detriment of the local currency.

The CBN deputy governor, however, expressed the hope that the passage of the 2016 budget would put a stop to the unrestrained drop in the value of the naira.

He said, “The CBN will embark on aggressive liquidity mop-up to enable the naira regain confidence. The CBN will not sit down and watch the consistent fall of the naira. After the passage of the 2016 budget, the naira will begin to bounce back.

“Those who speculate on dollars will have their fingers burnt.”

Money Laundering: Court Orders South African Lady To Forfeit $374,355 To FG (Photo)

Justice C.M.A Olatoregun of the Federal High Court, Lagos on Friday, March 4, 2016, convicted Ngqula Nosisi Pam, a South African for money laundering and bulk cash smuggling. The convict was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on February 1, 2016 after her arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The convict had earlier pleaded 'not guilty' but changed her plea to 'guilty' and was consequently convicted by the court. Justice Olatoregun ordered that the convict forfeit the entire sum of $374,355.00 to the Federal Government of Nigeria. The judge also ordered the EFCC to remit the money to the Federal Government Account within 29 days and filed notice of remittance at the court. The Judge admonished the convict to shun illegality in the future.

The one count charge reads: “that you Ngqula Nosisi Pam on or about the 24th of March, 2015 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court had in possession cash in the sum of Three Hundred and Seventy Four Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Five United States of America Dollars ($374,355.00) which you transported from the Republic of South Africa to Lagos; and failed to declare the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Five United States of America Dollars ($374,355.00) to the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service as required under the provisions of section 2(3) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 2(5) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 (as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012”.

Female Corper Almost Rap*d At National Assembly

She shared the terrifying experience herself. A female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) attached to the National Assembly narrowly escaped being r*ped on Thursday afternoon.

The fair complexioned lady was seen crying profusely at the White House wing of the National Assembly complex at about 5:45pm.

She told people at the Senate wing of the White House how she narrowly escaped being r*ped.

She said that a heavily built man accosted her while she went to ease herself at one of rest rooms in the upper legislative chamber. The corps member said she was about to uncloth herself when she saw a man entering the rest room.

The lady said she sensed that it was unusual for a man to enter the room specifically made for women.

She added, "as the man approached me, I had no option than to scream and the man took to his heels."

Security operatives at the National Assembly did not respond to her scream, hence the man escaped.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested one Tonwerigha Oyintonbra Tombrown for allegedly duping an Irish businesswoman, Izabela Glogowska to the tune of €53,000 (equivalent of N11.6million) in an Internet scam.

According to a statement by the spokesperson of the antigraft agency, Wilson Uwajaren, the Irish woman Glogowska alleged that Tombrown who posed as a prominent online trader Michael Freeman, tricked her into sending him €1,000 via Western Union/Money gram as payment for a business deal.

She added that he later pretended to be one Ben Andrews demanding for an additional €10,000 claiming that there was a policy change. The same Andrews advised her to send the money to Tombrown in Nigeria, who ended up diverting the money to a fake account. Efforts to recover her money proved abortive, hence she petitioned the EFCC. The suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
