Photos: Suspect breaks down in court when judge recognizes him as a former classmate

Aww, how sad for him! A burglary suspect broke down in tears in court after the judge he was appearing in front of recognized him as a former schoolmate and said he had been the "best kid" in school.
"Oh my goodness!" replied Arthur Booth, then he broke down in tears. Disheartening.
Booth, 49, was arrested on Monday after being spotted driving a car that matched the description of one allegedly involved in a robbery and failing to stop after a police officer signaled him to. A police chase followed, resulting in two accidents before he crashed the car. He fled on foot but was eventually caught and charged with various offences.

Arthur Booth appeared in front of judge Mindy Glazer at Miami-Dade bond court charged with burglary. When he was taken into court, the judge looked at him for a moment or two and then asked: "Did you go to Nautilus?"

"Oh my goodness," replied Booth several times, at first with smiles and then breaking down in tears.
"I'm sorry to see you here," replied Judge Glazer. "I always wondered what happened to you."
"This was the nicest kid in middle school," she told the court. "He was the best kid in middle school. I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened."

"What's sad is how old we've become," she continued before finishing the conversation with: "Good luck to you, sir, I hope you are able to come out of this OK and just lead a lawful life."

OMG! Boko Haram Kills 145 During Ramadan Prayers

These guys are really of the devil. I don't even know how else to describe their satanic acts anymore.
Boko Haram fighters laid a siege to some Borno communities between Tuesday and Wednesday night and killed about 145 persons and injured several others.

Some of the deceased were killed in some mosques where the villagers had gone to pray after breaking their fast on Wednesday. Just imagine that! Why kill Muslims if you claim to be Muslims?

The attacks occurred in some villages in Monguno and Kukawa local government areas of the state.

The Tuesday attack was on Musarram village, located 8km away from Monguno town, in northern part of the troubled state, where 48 males where picked out by the insurgents and killed, according to a resident of the village and some fleeing residents.

In the second attack on Wednesday, the insurgents attacked Kukawa, a border town with Niger Republic and killed 97 persons, according to a fleeing resident, Abba Modu, who spoke to our correspondent in Maiduguri.

Another fleeing resident, Idi Isa, said over 48 persons were killed and 17 others injured when the insurgents attacked Musara, a village that is few kilometres to Monguno on Tuesday.

Isa, who claimed he escaped death by a whisker, said the well-armed terrorists numbering about 40 rounded up the villagers, sorted out the males and opened fire on them.

Isa said, “A total of 48 males died on the spot while 17 others escaped with serious injuries.”

Isa, who spoke on Thursday in Maiduguri, said the image of the killing was disturbing and he still felt he was still being hunted by the insurgents.

A member of the House of Representatives representing the area, Muhammed Tahir Monguno, who spoke to journalists on the telephone in Maiduguri, confirmed the sad incident.

He said, “I received the sad news yesterday (Wednesday) that Boko Haram terrorists had attacked some communities near Monguno.

“Since their dislodgment from the Sambisa Forest, many Boko Haram terrorists had relocated to areas around Monguno where they have been picking on hapless villagers and killing residents there."

A member of the vigilante group in the area, Modu Kurawa, said the attack was on for over four hours.

Kurawa said, “There was no single soldier in Kukawa when the terrorists came around 6.30pm. The soldiers were in Kuros-Kawwa which is just 11 kilometres away. The terrorists stole assorted foodstuff from houses and homes and then set everything ablaze. They left around 11 pm.”

Governor Wike Squanders N60billion within 30 Days

...You lend to him at your own risk, Rivers APC tells banks
The Rivers State All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Chief Nyesom Wike squandering over N60 Billion in his first 30 days as the Rivers State Care-Taker Governor.

Rivers APC Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, made the disclosure in a statement he issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

“In what is clearly a tale of the absurd, Wike’s rubber stamp State House of Assembly has approved a whopping sum of N30B within 30 days for expenditure without any project attached. Apart from this N30B, the administration of Rt. Hon. Chbuike Amaechi left the sum of N7.5B, plus the N23B released to the State from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), making the total funds available for Wike to squander over N60B within 30 days,” Ikanya said.

He lamented that “within the 30 days, which rank among the worst in the history of Rivers State, Wike has neither initiated nor embarked upon any project apart from ordering a trailer load of his favourite Lexus XIII drink, a bottle of which costs N1.5m, and sharing the remaining billions of naira with Madam Patience Jonathan, INEC officials and others that supervised the killing of Rivers State
people so that Wike would become Governor. While Governors of States like Kaduna, Bauchi, Sokoto Abia, Lagos, Delta and Adamawa that were sworn-in the same date with Wike are initiating and executing projects aimed to improve the standard of living of their people, the Rivers State Care-Taker Governor is busy supervising the liquidation of the economy of Rivers State through acts of squandermania unknown to modern governance in the entire world. Wike has succeeded within 30 days turn Rivers State to one of the dirtiest States in Nigeria without security and in ensuring that our people now sleep with one eye opened!”

Continuing, Rivers APC said: “We are reliably informed that Wike is now at the edge of his seat and is desperate to source for funds by any means to pay off the money which former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan used in installing him as the Governor of Rivers State within two months instead of the four years spacing as earlier agreed between them. Dame Patience is said to have said that she can no longer wait for four years to recoup her investment as she is not sure if Wike will last as Governor till September, 2015.”

Rivers APC advised banks to stop advancing loans to the Wike administration as such loans would be difficult to recover if such funds are released without any project attached to them. “The period of sharing Rivers State money among some unscrupulous politicians ceased since 2007 and cannot be reintroduced through the back door,” the party said.

It sympathised with Rivers people on the great tragedy that has befallen them in the person of Wike but appealed to them not to be overly saddened as the rightful Governor, Dr. Dakuku Adol Peterside,
is only waiting for the Election Petition Tribunal to throw away the unprepared Wike to enable him assume office and clear the mess that Wike is currently creating in the State.

Boko Haram prisoners move to Anambra concluded under GEJ –Governor Obiano

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has revealed that the transfer of Boko Haram prisoners to his state, Ekwulobia prisons to be precise, was concluded in 2012 Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The governor, who spoke through his Senior Special adviser on Political Matters, Mr. Chinedu Obidigwe, said the decision was taken during a seminar organized for officers and men of the Nigeria Prison Service, NPS, in which Ekwulobia and Kuje prisons in Anambra and Abuja respectively, were chosen as prisons for the Boko Haram inmates.

Funny enough, in a swift reaction, a former Governor of the state Peter Obi has expressed shock about the claims by Governor Willie Obiano, describing it as a blatant lie.

Obiano's man, Obidigwe said the transfer of Boko Haram suspects would have been effected immediately but for the 2015 general elections on ground that it would affect the second term ambition of Jonathan in the South East geo-political zone.

Obidigwe contended that a decision made under the nose of past administrations in the state and the country in general should not be blamed on the current regime in Anambra.

“In as much as the state government would not want to join issues with such section of the public, it is important to note that the policy of transferring Boko Haram inmates to Anambra State had been made since 2012 under the regimes of President Goodluck Jonathan and Mr. Peter Obi, but for the 2015 general elections which the then President was contesting for a second term.

“Since the transfer of the 47 inmates, panic had gripped the people of Ekwulobia as residents in the area were apprehensive of an imminent attack by members of the Boko Haram Islamic sect,’’he said.

But describing the claim as a blatant lie, Peter Obi wondered how an action or a plan concluded by a man who left office almost 16 months ago was being implemented now.

He said: “The governor is clearly looking for an alibi for an action that was against the people. He should look elsewhere and not in the direction of Mr. Peter Obi, who, since he left office, had opted to stay away from Awka and not to distract the present government in any way.”

Someone is lying, someone is telling the truth. We will soon find out the truth.

Buhari Warns NASS: Put Your Personal Interests In Your Pocket

This is not the change we promised Nigerians. President Muhammadu Buhari has told the All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the National Assembly to accept the party’s supremacy in the interest of democracy and the stability of the polity.

In his opening remarks at the ongoing meeting of the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja, Buhari charged members to put whatever interest they have in their “pockets” and accept the supremacy of the party in the system.
He said: “What ever your personal interests, put them in your pocket. Let APC work. Let the system work. I appeal to you to accept the superiority of the party. I cannot confine myself in Sambisa forest and refuse to participate in the meeting because I respect the superiority of the party.”

APC and NASS crises: Atiku says its time to stop the blame game and work together

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on APC members to come together and resolve the issues they've been having following the recent crises in the National Assembly.

In a statement released this evening, Atiku who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj said it is time for members of the party to stop the blame game and work together for the unity, cohesion and harmony of the party. He added that he is concerned that after winning the elections, APC is now engulfed in internal crises. The statement after the cut...

Former Vice President and chieftain of APC, Atiku Abubakar has urged leaders of the APC to shift from extreme positions to a centrist one for the interest of democracy and the party, the new administration and the country at large.

The counsel of the former Vice President comes against the backdrop of the APC NEC meeting in Abuja on Friday, 3 July.

A statement released by his media office in Abuja on Thursday, 2 July quoted the former Vice President as calling for the concentration of positive energies on building unity, cohesion and harmony among party leaders and other stakeholders.

"We can resolve our differences when our leaders individually and collectively shift ground from extreme positions and move to the centre in the interest of our party and our country."

Atiku, who is unavoidably outside the country to perform Lesser Hajj (Umrah) in Saudi Arabia, said that he is deeply concerned that, soon after capturing power, the APC is torn apart at a time more energy are needed to attend to the objectives of the change agenda for which it was voted into power.
The former Vice President said it was high time the party overcame its current crisis of confidence arising from the National Assembly election of principal officers.

He explained that the current blame games targeted at individuals was an unnecessary diversion of energies at the expense of the urgency of the mission of the party to make life better for Nigerians.
According to the former Vice President, the vilification of individual party leaders and members in the face of challenges facing the country was painful to him, adding that the party should learn the lessons and move ahead.

While restating his commitment to the party and its change agenda, the former Vice President advise the party leaders not to allow people of bad faith to fuel division and acrimony among the party, adding that all positive energies should be directed towards sustaining the morale of the voters who look forward to the APC to make their lives better.

He reminded party leaders that any division could be exploited at the expense of the party. He extended his goodwill to the party for successful deliberations and assured the party of continued support and loyalty at all times.

Photos: EFCC returns €10,000 euros to french victim of love scam

Find the EFCC press statement below
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered and returned the sum of 10,000 Euros (Ten Thousand Euros) about Two Million, Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira), to F. Mercade, a French citizen, who was victim of internet love scam.
The fund was wired to the victim through his account in France on the recommendation of the French Embassy in Nigeria.
Roger Balima, French Police Liaison Officer who confirmed the receipt of the funds by the victim, thanked the EFCC “for the good job.”

Mercade was duped by two internet fraudsters, Omodara Adedapo Oluseye and Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo after he was deceived into a phantom relationship that was supposedly alter-bound.
The scam was reported to the Commission via a petition from the French Consulate in Lagos, on behalf of Mercade.

The petitioner alleged that he met a Nigerian beauty by name, ‘Kate Williams’ on the internet sometime in 2009 and they developed a relationship which was to culminate in marriage.
‘Williams’ was to relocate to join Mercade in France, to consummate the relationship.

While Mercade planned the logistics of the relocation, ‘Williams’ who purportedly did some jobs for an unnamed company in Nigeria, came up with a story that the company refused to pay ‘her’ for job done. ‘She’ sought the assistance of Mercade and the ‘couple’ contacted a lawyer named ‘James Robert’, to procure traveling documents and also help her claim money from the company owing her.
Mercade parted with the sum of 25,000.00 Euros, through Western Union, in processing his brides’ passage with no bride in sight. Eventually, it dawned on him that he had been scammed.

Investigations into the matter by the Commission revealed that ‘Kate Williams’ is the pseudonym of Omodara Adedapo Oluseye, a male student of the College of Agriculture, Akure, who, however, resides in Ibadan Oyo state.

Omodara’s accomplice, Adesuyi Ayodeji Adedapo, assisted in collecting the money transferred by the victim from the Akure, Ondo State branch of a new generation bank, using forged drivers’ license.

The duo were prosecuted on a two count charge  of conspiracy and obtaining money by false pretences before a Federal High Court Lagos, convicted and sentenced on 13th June 2011, to one year imprisonment each without an option of fine.

Photo of the new DG SSS, Lawal Daura

Here is a photo of the new DG of the State Security Service Mr Lawal Daura from Katsina state. He replaces Ita Ekpeyong who was fired by President Buhari today July 2nd.

Buhari Sacks Director General of SSS, Appoints Replacement

President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the Director General of the State Security Service, Ita Ekpenyong, some say he was forced to resign and go home.

The removal of Ekpenyong and appointment of his replacement was announced Thursday by the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, via a statement by the Director of Communications in his office, Haruna Imrana.

President Buhari has appointed a new SSS DG, his name is:
Lawal Daura. According to the statement, Mr. Daura was born in Daura on the August, 5, 1953.

He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1977 – 1980.

He started his carrier in the State Security Service in 1982 and rose to the rank of Director.

He was at one time the Deputy Director, Presidential Communication, Command and Control Centre, at the Presidential Villa Abuja between 2003 and 2007.

He also served as State Director of Security Service at various times in Kano, Sokoto, Edo, Lagos, Osun and Imo States.

He attended various professional courses both home and abroad including the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, (NIPSS) Kuru.

The appointment is with immediate effect.

The removal of Mr. Ekpenyong, who was appointed DG of the agency on September 7, 2010, has long been expected. Under him, the SSS became partisan, especially in the run-up to the 2015 general elections.

According to PT, rather than gathering intelligence to make the country safe, the agency busied itself more with harassing and arresting opposition figures, ransacking firms and offices with ties to the All Progressives Congress and appearing on television to disparage opposition politicians and their party.
The SSS also consistently disparaged the APC in the media, accusing the party and its leaders of being behind the deadly Boko Haram insurgency.

And after the Osun election, the agency’s spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, rushed to the media, claiming that some opposition APC politicians offered the Service’s personnel 14 million naira bribe.

The SSS is yet to substantiate that allegation and no one has been charged to court for bribery.

Perhaps due to its brazen partisanship during the Goodluck Jonathan era, President Buhari has related with the agency with suspicion since his assumption of duties at the presidential villa.

Tiger Woods dating a friend's ex-wife he cheated with when he was with Lindsey Vonn

Tiger Woods is allegedly dating the ex-wife of a friend and fellow professional golfer whom he was having an affair with when he was still married to his ex girlfriend, Lindsey Vonn.

The 39-year old is said to be having a 'steamy affair' with Amanda Boyd, 27, who divorced former PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner in April.

According to reports, Tiger and Amada started the relationship while Woods was still with Lindsey Vonn after they 'flirted' on the tour circuit.
They have allegedly been together for several months, and a source told the magazine it is now 'serious'.
Dufner, 38, and Boyd married in May 2012. He won the major in 2013 but has since struggled with back problems.

According to divorce papers filed on March 16, Amanda and Jason suffered an 'irretrievable breakdown of the marriage'.

They separated on February 17 due to a 'complete incompatibility of temperament'. A source told the Enquirer that Boyd is considered a 'flirt' among Dufner's colleagues on the PGA tour and, even though her ex-husband didn't seen Woods as a close pal, he considered him a 'trusted colleague'.

Court dismisses extradition case against Senator Buruji Kashamu

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed an application for the extradition of Senator Buruji Kashamu, to the United States of America to face illicit drugs related offence trial.
The immediate past Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, had filed the application on May 28, 2015 upon an alleged United State government’s request asking the Nigerian government to submit Kashamu for extradition.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole in his ruling held that he lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit in the face of the subsisting orders and judgments of the Federal High Court, Lagos in Suit Nos. FHC/L/CS/49/2010 and FHC/L/CS/508/2015 restraining the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) from entertaining any extradition request from the United States of America against Kashamu on the basis of the same allegations from Kashamu had been exonerated by two British court judgments.
Justice Kolawole noted that the various judgments and orders of the British and Nigerian courts had not been appealed or set aside by an appellate court.
Justice Okon Abang of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court had on June 8, 2015 nullified the extradition proceedings which he said were initiated on in contravention of an earlier order of the court.
Abang’s orders nullifying steps taken by the NDLEA and AGF were affirmed by Justice Ibrahim Buba in a ruling on June 23, 2015 who said subsisting orders and judgements of the court must be obeyed until set aside by a superior court.
Though Justice Kolawole expressed reservations on the Lagos judgments, which he described as “wide and perhaps wild,” he held that it was the exclusive duty of the Court of Appeal to determine whether they were valid or not.
Kashamu’s counsel, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede had on June 25, 2015, when the case came up for the first time, urged the court to strike out the extradition application in the light of the previous subsisting judgments.
However, Justice Kolawole, who cited several authorities to the effect that the court is enjoined to take judicial notice of developments related to a case, noted that he had sometime in 2013 ruled in another application seeking to register the two British court judgments that even without registering same, the judgments were enough shield for Kashamu against any fresh extradition proceedings.
The judge then dismissed the suit, describing same as an abuse of court process.
While the Kashamu’s legal team comprised of Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN), Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN) and Prince Ajibola Oluyede, the AGF’s team was led by a Deputy Director in the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. M. I. Hassan.
