According to Thisday, former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), is seriously ill, a source close to his hilltop mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital, has revealed.

The source said the former military president has been ill for a while, resulting in his inability to attend most public functions. We could not ascertain the real cause of his illness, but the source apart from saying that it was age-related, added that the former military president might be suffering from a relapse of the radiculopathy disease which has troubled him since he was head of state.

According to the source, General Babangida most times is unable to walk unaided without a walking stick or the assistance of his security personnel.

The illness of the former military president became public last week when he attended the valedictory dinner for the former Niger State Chief Judge, Justice Fati Lami Abubakar and was aided out of the venue before the end of the event.

It was said that Babangida now travels to Abuja frequently where he receives medical attention and has cut down on receiving visitors at his home.

Freeze writes about poverty mentality in Nigeria

OAP Freeze shared his thoughts on poverty mentality in the country. Please read:
N150 million 2016 #LAMBORGHINI #Huracan driving out of LEKKI phase 1 gate! And they say there is no money! read more after the cut...
In Nigeria it's not everyone that's having financial woes, it looks like it's only the poor that have gotten poorer!!!!! Same day, same venue, lekki. In the morning I saw the 2016 #LAMBORGHINI #Huracan and now only a few hours later I am seeing right in front of me the #latest #Ferrari 488 GTB. This car is so new it has a 2 year waiting list meaning that there is a long queue to get one! It costs almost $400,000 + another 70% ($280,000)to clear, bringing the total to about $680,000 x 323 for a dollar it's about N218,000,000.
While we are there reading and quoting the bible, these guys are living the life of the biblical Isaac who sowed in a land of famine and reaped a hundredfold. My question to you all now is; do I join other poor Nigerians and cry and bemoan Nigeria's woes, abuse our leaders, get angry at the presidents frequent trips, cry about the dollar rates or simply stop these guys when next I see them in traffic and ask them HOW DID YOU DO IT???

PDP Takes Over Senate; Ike Ekweremadu Will Be Presiding As Saraki Faces Trial Daily

When APC chairman National Chairman, John Oyegun said recently that if they have to sacrifice the office of the Senate President to have the desired change for Nigeria, many did not understand what he was driving at. But latest developments from the Code of Conduct Tribunal are clear indication.

Starting from Monday, April 18, Saraki will be spending his days at the CCT until his trial is concluded, no more room to go to the Senate chamber. He's technically out until the case is over.

He disrespected the leadership and leaders of APC to become senate president by force. Hopefully, he was well prepared for the consequences. The case has finally commenced. We are watching the epic battle!

I’m Not Seeking To Inherit Audu’s Votes – Idris Wada

Captain Idris Wada, immediate past governor of Kogi State, has said that he is not seeking to inherit the votes of Prince Abubakar Audu, the late All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the November 21, 2015 governorship election.

Wada said rather he is contesting the results of the gubernatorial election because of gross irregularities, noting that it was unfortunate that the APC flag-bearer, Audu, died.

Wada made the assertion while adopting his petition before the Kogi Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Under cross examination by counsel to INEC, Governor Yahaya Bello and APC, Captain Wada said that even though he was deeply saddened by the death of his long time friend, Abubakar Audu, he was of the opinion that Audu’s votes were voided by his death and could not be inherited by anyone.

In a related development, a forensic analyst, Mr. Samuel Oduntan, also testified before the tribunal.

Mr. Oduntan said that he was the leader of the team that carried out forensic examination of the election documents and that they discovered various irregularities.

He affirmed that he was an experienced hand in the field and had cause to work with many lawyers including one of the APC lawyers in the Kogi case on several occasions.

It would be recalled that counsel to Wada, Chief Chris Uche (SAN), presented a report before the tribunal which contains information about gross irregularities in the gubernatorial poll.

According to the report, when the invalid votes are subtracted from the votes declared by INEC, PDP has a lead of over 25,000 votes, making Wada the rightful winner of the election.

Thousands take to the streets in Zimbabwe in massive anti-Mugabe protests

The nonagenarian has ruled the South African country with an iron fist for 28 years and it seems the people want him gone. Thousands took to the street in the capital Harare demanding he step down in a protest organised by main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change. Estimates put the crowd at between 2000 and 10000 protesters.

Speaking before the crowd, MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai made clear that the protesters were not calling for revolution, but merely fair elections. “We are not demanding an overthrow of the government… We are demanding a dignified exit for the tired Mugabe,” Tsvangirai said, adding, “It’s time Mugabe listens to the voice of the people. The people shall liberate themselves.”

Tsvangirai ran against Mugabe in 2002, 2008, 2013. In what can only be described as a bastardisation of the democratic process, he got more votes than Mugabe in 2008 but “not enough to win,” according to the Mugabe government’s electoral oversight officials.

The protest suffered a hitch when organisers were initially denied the licence to match but the nation's high court gave the go-ahead.
