NYSC Member Working for INEC in Rivers State Killed
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Mr Aniedi
Ikoiwak, has confirmed that the electoral officer for Ikwerre who was
earlier declared missing during the Rivers rerun election has been found
alive.
Mr Osifo Osaze is reported to have been attacked by gunmen who opened fire on his vehicle but he managed to escape his assailants into the bush.
The REC told Channels that Mr Osaze was found with bullet wounds and has been taken to hospital.
Sadly, a Youth Corps member working as ad hoc INEC official was killed during violence at a polling unit in Ahoada West area.
Mr Ikoiwak said that further announcements on the polls will be made in due course.
INEC had suspended further activities in the Rivers State rerun elections following the violent incidents that trailed the conduct of the polls.
The case of Rivers State is really becoming something else, with guns in the hands of youths who use it anyhow for their political godfathers and in open show of force against innocent citizens.
Rivers Election: PDP Says Buhari Planning To Declare State of Emergency
In a statement issued by PDP on its official Twitter handle, the party alleged that the meeting called by Buhari is to prepare grounds for a declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers.
Some of the tweets by PDP reads:
President Buhari in a meeting at the Aso Rock over #RiversReRun. The ground is now been prepared for the declaration of state of Emergency.
Senate Majority Leader, Ali Ndume, Femi Gbajabiamila and 20 APC Senators & 60 Reps have just been summoned to the ongoing meeting.Sources say the situation in some areas was so bad that INEC officials were reportedly scared of stepping out of their offices to conduct the election due to threats from persons wearing fake military uniform.

UPDATE: INEC Suspends Bloody Rivers Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission has suspended further action on Rivers rerun elections into the National Assembly and the House of Assembly across the state.
It said it decided to take the action because several permanent and ad hoc officials had been attacked. In fact, some INEC officials were abducted and taken to unknown destinations by armed political thugs.
The electoral agency said the tense atmosphere had only enabled it to collate and declare results in only one Federal and nine state constituencies.
But the suspension does not affect the constituencies where the process has been completed and the results declared by the Returning Officers.
A statement by INEC’s Director, Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, said:
“Pursuant to the Orders of the Court of Appeal, the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections into various seats in
the National and the Rivers State House of Assembly yesterday, the 19th
of March, 2016.
“Rather unfortunately, some of these elections witnessed the disruption of the process, including the barricading of some of the INEC Local Government offices and Registration Area Centres (RACs) used for the distribution of Electoral materials which led to the late commencement of the exercise in some places and consequently, its smooth take off.
“Of more serious concern was the level of threats, violence and intimidation of election officials and voters by well armed thugs and miscreants allegedly acting on behalf of some politicians, which marred the elections in some areas.
“There were reports of numerous attacks resulting in fatalities, kidnappings, ballot snatching, diversion of officials and materials, amongst others, which necessitated its suspension in 8 Local Government Areas.
“Regrettably, such deviant behaviour has continued today. Several permanent and ad hoc staff engaged have been attacked, again resulting in fatalities, while some have been forcibly abducted and taken to presently unknown destinations.
“Under such difficult circumstance, the Returning Officers were only able to collate and declare results in 1 Federal and 9 State constituencies where the disruption and malpractices were not so widespread.
“Having reviewed the situation, the Commission is compelled to suspend all further action concerning the exercise in all the other constituencies in the State pending the receipt of a comprehensive report from its Field Officials and Monitors.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that the suspension does not affect the constituencies where the exercise has been completed and the results declared by the Returning Officers.”

Press statement: Dakuku Peterside to face prosecution for murder
All is now set for the prosecution of Dakuku Peterside, defeated Rivers State Governorship Candidate and NIMASSA Managing Director who on Sunday directed his security details to murder an aide to the Chief of Staff to Governor Wike while fleeing with some result sheets from Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The incident
took place at the UTC junction in GRA after Dakuku Peterside instead
of taking Ikwerre Local Government Area result sheets snatched from
collation officers to INEC office drove with it towards the GRA.
He
had stormed the Collation Centre in Isiokpo with soldiers after which
he hijacked the already collated results, which included the
Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency. Chief of Staff to Governor Wike,
Engr Emeka Woke is a PDP Collation Agent for Emohua Local Government
Area. Dakuku Peterside, plays politics from Opobo/Nkoro Local Government
Area and has no links with Ikwerre Local Government Area.
After
he snatched the results alongside his defeated running mate, Asita
Asita, Dakuku Peterside and the soldiers fled towards Port Harcourt.
The PDP leaders of Ikwerre and Emohua Federal Constituency followed
suit.
At Omagwa near the airport, the
soldiers withdrew leaving the SARS personnel from Abuja to take over
the electoral theft operation. At Omagwa, defeated APC candidate for
Ikwerre State Constituency, Azubike Wanjoku attempted to murder the LGA
Electoral Officer when he used his Armoured Sports Utility Vehicle to
ram into the Electoral Officer's car. The SARS personnel with Dakuku
Peterside also opened fire on the rest of the people. The Electoral
Officer was shot.
It was from this point that Dakuku Peterside motorcade in neck-breaking speed drove towards Port Harcourt.
Chief
of Staff to Governor Wike, Engr Emeka Woke became a victim as the same
SARS personnel with Dakuku Peterside opened fire on the vehicle of
the Chief of Staff.
Like in the case of infamous Chidi Lloyd, Dakuku Peterside went ahead to release a false press statement on the issue.
