Pregnancy is the result of a process
that has many steps and the steps are as follows;
- A woman’s body must release an egg from one of her ovaries (ovulation).
- The egg must go through a fallopian tube toward the uterus (womb).
- A man’s sperm must join with (fertilize) the egg along the way.
- The fertilized egg must attach to the inside of the uterus (implantation).
Is infertility just a woman’s
problem?
No, infertility is not always a
woman’s problem. Both women and men can have problems that cause infertility.
About one-third of infertility cases are caused by women’s problems. Another
one third of fertility problems are due to the man. The other cases are caused
by a mixture of male and female problems or by unknown problems.
Infertility in men is most often
caused by:
- A problem called varicocele. This happens when the veins on a man’s testicle(s) are too large. This heats the testicles. The heat can affect the number or shape of the sperm.
- Other factors that cause a man to make too few sperm or none at all.
- Movement of the sperm. This may be caused by the shape of the sperm. Sometimes injuries or other damage to the reproductive system block the sperm.
What Increases a Man’s Risk of
Infertility?
A man’s sperm can be changed by his
overall health and lifestyle. Some things that may reduce the health or number
of sperm include:
- Heavy alcohol use
- Drugs
- Smoking cigarettes
- Environmental toxins, including pesticides and lead
- Health problems such as mumps, serious conditions like kidney disease, or hormone problems
- Medicines
- Radiation treatment and chemotherapy for cancer
Most cases of female infertility are
caused by problems with ovulation. Without ovulation, there are no eggs to be
fertilized. Some signs that a woman is not ovulating normally include irregular
or absent menstrual periods.
Ovulation problems are often caused
by polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormone imbalance problem
which can interfere with normal ovulation. PCOS is the most common cause of
female infertility. Primary ovarian insufficiency (POI) is another cause of
ovulation problems. POI occurs when a woman’s ovaries stop working normally
before she is 40. POI is not the same as early menopause.

Less common causes of fertility
problems in women include:
- Blocked fallopian tubes due to pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, or surgery for an ectopic pregnancy
- Physical problems with the uterus
- Uterine fibroids, which are non-cancerous clumps of tissue and muscle on the walls of the uterus.
What Things Increase a Woman’s Risk
of Infertility?
Many things can change a woman’s
ability to have a baby. These include:
- Age
- Smoking
- Excess alcohol use
- Stress
- Poor diet
- Being overweight or underweight
- Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Health problems that cause hormonal changes, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome and primary ovarian insufficiency
Some health problems also increase
the risk of infertility. So, women should talk to their doctors if they have:
- Irregular periods or no menstrual periods
- Very painful periods
- Endometriosis
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
- More than one miscarriage

Medical students to spend 11 years in University henceforth - NUC
In a lecture titled ‘Development of Medical Education: Prospects and Challenges‘, Okojie, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Chiedu Mafiana, said increasing the study time was essential to ensure medical students are well prepared for the psychological demands of the game.
He said medical students will spend the first four years in studying basic sciences in university after which they would proceed to the medical school to spend another seven years. Mafiana, who stressed the need for adequate funding of medical training and practice, admonished the management of the institution to ensure that the money earmarked for the development of the institution was used for the purpose it was meant.

Mr. Trump,
Mr. Trump,
I try my hardest not to be political.
I’ve refused to interview several of your fellow candidates. I didn’t
want to risk any personal goodwill by appearing to take sides in a
contentious election. I thought: ‘Maybe the timing is not right.’ But I
realize now that there is no correct time to oppose violence and
prejudice. The time is always now. Because along with millions of
Americans, I’ve come to realize that opposing you is no longer a
political decision. It is a moral one.
I’ve watched you retweet racist images.
I’ve watched you retweet racist lies. I’ve watched you take 48 hours to
disavow white supremacy. I’ve watched you joyfully encourage violence,
and promise to ‘pay the legal fees’ of those who commit violence on your
behalf. I’ve watched you advocate the use of torture and the murder of
terrorists’ families. I’ve watched you gleefully tell stories of
executing Muslims with bullets dipped in pig blood. I’ve watched you
compare refugees to ‘snakes,’ and claim that ‘Islam hates us.’
I am a journalist, Mr. Trump. And over
the last two years I have conducted extensive interviews with hundreds
of Muslims, chosen at random, on the streets of Iran, Iraq, and
Pakistan. I’ve also interviewed hundreds of Syrian and Iraqi refugees
across seven different countries. And I can confirm— the hateful one is
you.
Those of us who have been paying
attention will not allow you to rebrand yourself. You are not a
‘unifier.’ You are not ‘presidential.’ You are not a ‘victim’ of the
very anger that you’ve joyfully enflamed for months. You are a man who

Customs Intercept 3 Boats Loaded with Marijuana in Lagos
Lagos, March, 15, 2016 (NAN) The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Tuesday said it had intercepted three boats loaded with marijuana along an unnamed waterway in Lagos.
The Customs Zone ‘A’ Coordinator, Assistant Comptroller-General Charles Edike, made the disclosure in Lagos while speaking at a Stakeholders’ Forum organised by the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
Edike said the boats were intercepted by
officers of the Western Marine Command on Sunday, adding that the
smugglers had been arrested and would be made to face the full wrath of
the law.
The zonal coordinator said that smuggling activities on waterways had been on the increase in recent times.
He, however, said that men of the service were fully on the alert to check illegal activities of water smugglers.
Smugglers have resorted to using the waterways to carry out their nefarious activities but I can assure you that men of the service are up to the task to check this criminality.Just three days ago, our men intercepted three boats fully loaded with marijuana. Our men from the Western Marine Command got the smugglers.We will increase our patrols both on land and waters to ensure that smugglers and other economic saboteurs have no hiding place,” the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quotes Edike as saying.
He said that the service would not yield
to calls in some quarters to take away its men on some Federal highways
as the deployment was meant to check smugglers who used the highways to
carry out their illegal activities.
The zonal coordinator said men of the
service had made large seizures of arms from smugglers on some highways,
especially around Idiroko in Ogun and Iseyin in Oyo State.
Edike said the incidents justified continuous patrols by officers on the highway.
He said more officers had been deployed
to bush routes used by smugglers around Seme border, saying that the
strategy was to ensure that smuggling activities were limited in the
