Tompolo Dares Federal Government

The battle line will soon be drawn! Former Niger Delta militant and Gbaramatu traditional titleholder, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), has dismissed his invitation by the EFCC as a ploy to intimidate and witch-hunt him because of, according to him, his refusal to back the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the stalemated Bayelsa State governorship election.

He vowed not to honour EFCC's invitation as he has already filed a suit in court against the agency.

EFCC had given him one week to report or be declared wanted. But in his reaction, Tompolo said:
“I know why they are after me. It is not the alleged multi-billion naira property transaction. After all, it went through due process and was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

“And as such if there are any questions to answer, it is the people at the FEC, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Federal Ministry of Lands and Survey, Federal Ministry of Transport, NIMASA, etc who approved the transaction that should be answering such questions.

“The real reason this APC-led government is after me is that I bluntly refused to join APC and to support their Governorship candidate in Bayelsa State. We cannot all be in APC. Our people have always believed in the Nigerian project and had always hoped to join hands with this administration to move this project forward, but the conditions being attached are not acceptable. I insist on believing in the Nigerian project unconditionally!

“The impression being conveyed is that I was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and I failed to honour the invitation or even respond by letter to the invitation”

Tompolo said his lawyers’ response, stating why he wouldn’t honour EFCC’s invitation was conveyed to the EFCC on December 3, adding, “I have proof of delivery from the courier company.”

He accused the EFCC of lying to Nigerians on allegation that he refused to honour the invitation, adding: “my Solicitor’s letter indicated I am already in court with the EFCC.

“EFCC had been served with the court processes since 20th of October 2015 but they refused to attend court on several occasions, or to file any court papers, only to appear for the first time on 30th November 2015 without filing any court papers. They even asked for the matter to be adjourned to 17th December 2015, the date they are now inviting me to appear before them.

“So the attempt to harass me by their reminder of 9th December 2015, which was leaked to the media on the 10th of December 2015 , the same day as it was delivered to my house in Warri is an unnecessary and face saving effort at brinksmanship.

“As a full blooded Ijaw man and citizen of Nigeria, I have done everything in my power to follow the laws of Nigeria. Since the amnesty declared in 2009 by late President Yar’ Adua I have strained myself to ensure that we all live in peace in this country. Those who think they can push us to war must rethink the necessity of such a war.

“They froze our business accounts since August 4th 2015, but we have not quarrelled with anybody. We sued them to court, they refused to come to court. Now they are threatening to declare me wanted.”

On the threat by EFCC to declare him wanted, Tompolo said he's not moved, adding, “The threat to declare me wanted is an unnecessary attempt to heat up the polity. I will go about my daily business, usual.”

Arms Deal: Big Thieves Begging Obasanjo To Talk To Buhari

In secret they are begging for forgiveness but when they speak in public they will claim witch-hunting.

Some prominent Nigerians involved in the $2.1bn security fund scandal have started running to the house of ex-President Olusegun Obsanjo to help intervene on their behalf. Those who are begging
are looking for soft-landing in other to escape going to jail. They steal Billions and want to walk from but if ordinary man steal N10k he will spend 10 years in prison awaiting trial. That's Nigeria for you.
According to Punch, one of Obasanjo's trusted aide confirmed that top politicians are contacting him.

“I can confirm that,” one of the former president’s trusted aides said when asked if the Obasanjo had been approached. Obasanjo, who played a major role in galvanizing support for Muhammadu Buhari prior to the 2015 election, is believed to have the ears of the current president.
However, the source said Obasanjo was not likely to accede to the requests of the influential Nigerians.

Some staff of the office of the National Security Adviser, who made useful statements to investigators of the EFCC, had named several prominent Nigerians in politics, business, governance and the media as beneficiaries of several “suspicious payments”.

“Everyone that Ibarahim Wambai mentioned would be called upon to tell us what they know. And I do not think the former vice-president will be exempted. All the names are in the public and Nigerians would be expecting us to do justice to all. And that is what we intend to do. No sacred cows,” said EFCC source.

The Bad Guys would have Finished Nigeria if Jonathan had won – Prof. Soyinka

Respect Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has declared that he does not regret his support for President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 general elections, adding that Nigeria would not have survived four more years of former President Goodluck Jonathan’s rule.

Soyinka added that the revelation of stolen loot such as the arms purchase fraud justified his position that in the era of Jonathan, Nigeria was being run aground.
In his words: “We were left with two credible contestants in terms of catchment area for the nation. We had reached, in my view, the bottom. I became convinced that if this country underwent 4 more years under President Jonathan, the country would run aground completely. I looked at the record and said this cannot go on, this has to stop."
The Nobel laureate said this at a programme titled, ‘Channels Book Club’ on Tuesday.

He confessed that he used to have a bad impression of Buhari who he once described as a “devil for whom in my calculation, no spoon existed long enough to justify the risk even of an impromptu snack.”

However, Soyinka said many of his trusted companions were able to convince him during the elections that Buhari had changed and that the highhandedness that characterised his military rule in the 1980s could not be repeated during a democratic rule.

He said, “Then I looked at this man who had contested elections three times before and said he would not contest anymore and then decided to throw his hat in the ring. I talked to people and I said do you know what you’re doing?

“And after weighing all the options, I said let’s try a new one. And since in electoral terms, he was the one, I guardedly, with reservations, announced that no, not a continuation under Jonathan.

“And so very reluctantly, I want this on record, because I made it quite clear, I weighed the two of them and I said this nation stands a better chance under Buhari. And what has been coming out now? Look at all that has been coming out? Look at the figures (loot) which virtually hammer one into the ground just the sheer enormity of the robbery of this nation that is getting exposed progressively. It shows that we did not make a bad choice.”

When asked if he was completely satisfied with Buhari’s six months in office, Soyinka said, “Not totally but Buhari has proven that there is such a thing as a born again democrat.”

Lagos Big Boy Killed by Conductor A Week to his Travel to US

Babatunde Omoyeni, a web designer who planned to spend his Christmas and New Year celebrations in the United States of America, has been killed in Lagos over N50. He was to travel on December 10.

After obtaining all travel documents, the 38yrs old big boy went clubbing with his friends on Saturday. He was returning when he had a disagreement with a bus conductor over the N50 fare and was stabbed to death.

His girlfriend, Temiloluwa Ogundayo, said he recently informed her to prepare for their engagement.

According to Punch, a police source said angry residents almost lynched the conductor, who was identified as Samson Eletu. He was saved by a community leader, who took him to the Aguda Police station.

The source said, "The victim was returning home after a party when he entered the bus. He gave the conductor N500, but the conductor told him he didn’t have N450 change, because the fare was N50.

“When they got to the bus stop, the man demanded his change and that started a fight. An Alfa in the bus intervened and separated them.

But the conductor, who was still aggrieved, trailed the victim to his house.”

It was learnt that Eletu, while armed with a broken bottle, banged on the gate into the house.

As the deceased opened the gate, Eletu stabbed him. Babatunde took to his heels, but the conductor chased him. Unfortunately, he fell down and the conductor stabbed him repeatedly,” he added.

It was learnt that Eletu was fleeing from the scene when he was nabbed by a suspicious resident who saw blood stains on his clothes.

The younger sister of the victim, Blessing Omoyeni, said his brother would not have died if he was rescued on time. She said he spent over one hour in a pool of blood before he was rushed to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

She said, “Nobody was ready to assist him to the hospital. A man had to throw himself in front of a commercial bus and asked the passengers to disembark, before he could get help.

“He was rushed to LUTH, but they were turned back at the gate by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival around 12am. People started beating the conductor and almost killed him before he was rescued and taken to the Aguda Police Division.”

It was learnt that the victim’s corpse was deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary.

His girlfriend, who lived with Babatunde, said she was not aware that he had been killed until the early hours of Sunday.

“We have dated for over one year and he told me to meet my sister to ask for the requirement for our engagement. He said we would go there on Monday.

On that Saturday morning before he went to work, we made love. He called me around 5pm to prepare food for him that he would soon be home. I had done everything and was waiting for him in the house till 11pm when I drifted off into sleep.

“Around 1am, he came in and slept beside me. He rubbed my head with his hand and I asked him if he had eaten his food, but he said I should not bother, that he was fine.

“I went back to sleep and it was around 6am that somebody called me and asked if I knew he was dead. I jumped up and looked around the bathroom and kitchen to know if he was there, but I couldn’t find him.”

The victim’s friend, Ogunyemi Olaribigbe, described him as quiet and gentle, adding that his death was a big blow to all who knew him.

Samson Eletu.
In his confession, 32-year-old Eletu said the victim attacked him first. He said, “I am also a driver and I had parked my bus at about 7pm when I saw a co-driver who offered to take me home. It was along the way that he decided to pick passengers and there were eight of them in the bus.

“I collected money from seven of them, but he refused to pay and said he knew me on the street.

“It was at the bus stop that he broke a bottle and stabbed me in the forehead and cheek. I also got the same bottle, but unfortunately I stabbed him in the neck and he died.”

Soyinka calls for caution on Biafran agitation

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has called on the Nigerian government to be cautious in dealing with the recent Pro-Biafrans agitations. Soyinka made the call during a recent interview with Channels TV
"I wrote an article during the war that Biafra cannot be defeated. People misunderstood what I was saying. Once an idea has taken hold, you cannot destroy that idea. You may destroy the people, the carriers of that idea on the battle field but ultimately it’s not the end of the story.
Let’s not take this position of ‘don’t even talk about it’, ‘under my watch this will never happen’, don’t say things like that. Go into that environment and ask ‘what is it that we can do to make you happy and feel part of this entity?’ Listen to some other Biafrans and ask them why they want to stay (and say) ‘this is what we are ready to push as the overall authority in this area’. Don’t go around saying ‘the sovereignty of the country is indivisible, it’s non-negotiable’ all that kind of language will only make matters worse,” he said.
