Ghana marks 106th birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah

                                        Kwame Nkrumah 03Oct2010
Ghana will today, September 21, mark the 106th birthday of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

In 2010, the late President John Evans Atta Mills instituted the Founders Day to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The day will be marked with lectures, symposiums and other programmes to highlight his achievements and vision.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) which was founded by Nkrumah will celebrate the 106th birthday of their founder who was born on September 21, 1909.

Since the Founders Day falls on Monday, the day has been declared a national holiday in Ghana.

The CPP last year said it is not enough to set a day aside as a holiday to celebrate Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

The party called for the day to be linked to an activity such as a cleanup exercise to make it more productive

Adamu and the Wasipewura Mimuni Anyami Kabasagya II, held up at the Pacific Hotel in Ouagadougou, still remain in the balance.

The delegation was attending the 11th International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) conference under the aegis of an international biodiversity non-governmental organization, but the event ended abruptly following a coup d’état in Burkina Faso.

The Ghanaians, including members of Shea Network Ghana (SNG), may not be able to return to Ghana as expected as the country’s borders and airports still remain closed, with security said to be deteriorating.

A security official from the state security who spoke to the Ghanaian hostages at their hotel, disclosed that the situation was quite dangerous, with most phone lines jammed, making relatives unable to reach out to their colleagues in other parts of the country; but appealed to them to remain calm.

“I am currently in the reception sending this mail. We do not know when the borders will be opened,” one of the hostages disclosed in a mail.

Meanwhile, attempts to contact Ghana’s embassy in Burkina Faso, according to the National Coordinator of SNG, Zakaria Iddi, had proved futile.

He admitted that the Ghanaians held in the hotel though are safe, he was apprehensive, considering the deteriorating security situation in the area, and appealed to the government to help in bringing them back home.

Seydou Zoure, a resident civil engineer, said major shops in the capital city were looted by irate demonstrators in protest against the military takeover.

He confirmed the confusion in the capital, Ouagadougou, indicating that residents were being brutalized by the military who were seeking to defend their action.

The military takeover triggered unrest in Ouagadougou and soldiers opened fire on crowds of protesters. World leaders have condemned the coup, which derailed hopes for a transition to democracy in a country that is now threatened by regional Islamist terrorism.

General Gilbert Diendere, a long-serving chief of staff to former President Blaise Compaoré, was confirmed in power after members of the 1,300-strong elite Republican Guard had ousted the interim president, Michel Kafando and other officials during a cabinet meeting.

Burkina Faso coup supporters attack hotel hosting mediation talks

Burkina Faso Riots 19September2015
Pro-coup demonstrators in Burkina Faso on Sunday invaded a hotel due to host talks aimed at hammering out the details of a deal to restore a civilian interim government and attacked participants arriving for the meeting, witnesses said.

Some of the protesters carried signs expressing support for a military junta headed by the elite presidential guard, which stormed a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, disrupting a transition period due to end with elections on Oct. 11.

"They invaded the hotel. It was violent," said a Reuters witness. "They attacked ex-opposition members as they arrived. One had to be saved from the crowd by security forces."

The witness said he recognised several of the demonstrators as party militants from the Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), Burkina Faso's former ruling party under ex-president Blaise Compaore, who was ousted in a popular uprising last year.

Benin's President Thomas Boni Yayi, who has been mediating in the crisis on behalf of West African regional bloc ECOWAS, said on Saturday the talks were expected to lead to the reinstatement of President Michel Kafando's interim government.

I will banish poverty from Ghana – Nana Addo

Akufo Addo PovertyNana Akufo-Addo - NPP flagbearer

Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to banish poverty in Ghana if elected president in 2016.

He said he would do it through a comprehensive restructuring of the economy, geared towards eliminating all difficulties Ghanaians are currently going through under President Mahama’s National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
Addressing NPP members in the Upper East Region on his ‘Rise and Build’ tour, Nana Addo urged all party members and executives to work hard with a united front to win the 2016 general elections.

“…And what will the victory mean, it means we can then begin to do something about poverty in our country. We can do something about restoring a decent educational system, a decent health care system, decent agriculture system and a decent road transportation system.

“This is what victory is going to mean, that we are going to get away from all the difficulties that we are having now. The difficulties of paying our children school fees, the difficulties involving in getting people going to the hospital, the difficulties of the farmers who don’t get the inputs for their work, all these the NPP will banish if we are given the opportunity of power because we have done it before and we are coming back to do it again.”

He said “a particular concern to me, of the things we will have to do…is to have a year round agriculture in the northern sector of our country.”

“It has been done in Burkina Faso and we can have it here in Ghana with the proper training and the proper branding,” he explained.

Nana Addo added that, the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) which has become a white elephant as a result of massive corruption and mismanagement under the NDC John Mahama government will become the proper instrument for the development of the northern regions that it was intended to be under the ruin of Nana Addo and the NPP administration come 2017.

He reiterated that the NPP will ensure a stable and stronger Ghanaian cedi to the US dollar to harness business transaction international and create an enabling business environment that will create employment for the teaming unemployed.

“And above all, I want you to go away remembering one thing, I am not a thief, I am not coming to put my hands in Ghana’s money for my pocket and that of my family, I am coming to work for you, I am coming to work for you so that we will have a better life,” Nana Addo stressed.

Ghana To Attract Men To Live Matches Using Beautiful Women

Kwesi Nyantakyi

Ghana, Ghana, Ghana!!!! This country keeps doing things that make them the butt of Nigerian Twitter jokes. The Ghanaian FA has done it this time as they look to increase the attendance of men at League matches in Ghana by getting beautiful women to the stadia
This may seem desperate but Kwesi Nyantakyi doesn’t care as he looks to increase the attendance at Ghanaian games. Ghanaian men are reportedly more interested in staying home and watching the Barclays premier league rather than go to the stadium to watch live matches in Ghana. Attendance of football matches in Ghana has dropped by 55 percent in the last 10 years and Nyantakyi is desperate to remedy that. When asked about his plans, the president of Ghana’s FA was straight to the point “How are they going to do it? I hear you ask? Simple. By filling stadiums with sexy ladies That’s right, the GFA chief thinks that if there are lots of attractive women in the stadiums then hoards of men are bound to flood in. I have said this thing over and over again… we must let sexy ladies enter our stadia and the men will readily follow them into the stadium to watch games,” he told Monti FM.
“Most of these men when they hear that beautiful girls are coming to the stadium today, they’ll all jump and follow them to the stadium… and they are going there purposely to see the ladies.” Apparently, Nyantakyi has tried this before “I remember there was one match that we brought some beautiful girls who were in nice jeans to the stadium. The men in the stands went into frenzy and when the ladies waved at them – come and see how jubilant they were.” The premier football Administrator in Ghana told the reporter.
Now, we do not know how the Ghana FA plans to get the girls to the stadia but we know that it works. We saw it work on Saturday at The Twitter Premier League. So, that might not be a bad idea after all.

The millionaire has however opened his campaign site, mcafee16.com, and promised to make an official announcement on Wednesday.
In an interview with Wired, McAfee had said he wasn’t quite sure if he was running, but that a change in leadership was needed.
“It’s clear that the leadership of our country is illiterate on the fundamental technology that supports everything in life for us now, that is cyber science, our smartphones, our military hardware, our communications,” McAfee said in the interview.
The tech mogul is reportedly not going to be with either the Democratic or Republican parties, but as a third-party candidate.
