Buhari’s first semester report card by Etcetera

In this new article, Etcetera grades president Buhari mostly F9 for his 100 days in office. Read below
We often use benchmarks as measures of progress. ‘How is your favourite football team doing at the beginning of this season?’ ‘How many words does your one-year-old son say in a minute?’ And, of course, there’s the time-honoured measure of how well a new president is doing after 100 days in office. In case you hadn’t heard, that benchmark is here for President Buhari.
You may feel it’s a little impertinent for me to issue a report card for President Buhari on his performance during his first 100 days in office. Yes, I’m not his teacher, and he’s not my student.
But what the heck? It’s a free country and everyone else is doing it. So here it goes:

Confidence:- Buhari has brought back confidence in governance. Especially in tough times, the confident presence of a leader begets confidence in those that he or she leads. With his steady demeanour, optimistic outlook and command, Buhari embodies confidence. The number of incompetent heads of parastatals he has sacked so far reflects that sentiment. The percentage of Nigerians who think the country is on the right track is up. Grade: A1

Pace of Governance:– When the pressure is high, leaders need perspective. They need swift action. Buhari is working on so many things all by himself that it’s sometimes hard to keep track of all of them. He has too much on his plate. He should get into perspective and allow others do the job where he can’t. It won’t be a surprise to discover that the president is in charge of his travel itinerary, meeting schedule and other range of issues on his plate. He runs the risk of edging toward a burn out. Well, some argue that the president is keeping a pace that works for him. Grade: F9

Communications:– Effective leadership communication is outcome oriented and audience specific. President Buhari is clearly not an articulate communicator and he doesn’t do enough to shape his message to the audience. Hearing Mr. President pronounce APC leaves you lost and wondering if you heard him correctly. Maybe his media aides should have used this as an excuse to exonerate him from the hundred things he promised to have achieved before his first 100 days in office that has now capped him as a liar. Buhari’s tone of voice usually stays within a fairly narrow range. He could do better here. Grade: F9

Team Player: – There are two major factors on this distinction. The first is to get a great team in place. The second is to get your ego out of the way and allow the team to do their job. Buhari has stumbled here and most people will agree that his failure to appoint ministers in his first 100 days in office has been a setback to governance. Whether you agree with me or not, Buhari can’t be president and ministers all by himself. We need competent hands to man the various ministries. You cannot achieve a lot in three and half months without the support of a team. Good leaders are the keepers of the what, not the masters of the how. Assembling a strong team also helps in establishing an agenda. Buhari needs to realise that he’ll likely never have more momentum than he has now if he doesn’t put a team on the ground. Grade: F9

Accountability and Responsibility: President Buhari has done fairly well with the campaign for government officials to be held accountable for their actions or inactions. He has brought a sense of transparency and has taken some interesting first steps in promoting government accountability. I think this is an area where there is a lot more to do however. For instant, there hasn’t really been a clear explanation yet as to how he is going to tackle corruption and how the country will avoid being ripped apart by government officials in the years to come. Grade: C

Economy: – This has so far been one of the president’s worst subjects. He may be making a grave mistake focusing all his attention on recouping looted funds instead of providing the basic needs of the people. Never in history has this approach successfully led a country out of recession. This might lead to an unhappy ending, and more inflation. The continuous drop of the nation’s currency is stark reminder that we are still in the worst slump in 50 years. Grade: F9

National Security:- Nigerians are still not experiencing any sense of security. People are dying and getting maimed everyday on the streets by hoodlums and touts. Boko Haram insurgents are still using the yet to be found Chibok girls for their bombings. Armed robbers are having a field day carting away properties. The country is still not safe. Grade: F9

Fayose condemns invasion of Akwa Ibom Govt House By DSS Men, calls for Daura’s sack

Below is the full text  of the press statement addressed on behalf of the governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose by his special assistant on Public Communications and new media, Lere Olayinka yesterday.
I have called you here on behalf of His Excellency, Mr Ayodele Fayose, the governor of Ekiti State to address you on the strangeand anti-democracy conducts of the Department of State Security (DSS) since AlhajiLawal Daura took over as the Director General. Yesterday, the AkwaIbom State Government House in Uyowas invaded by armed men from the Special Squad of the DSS.
They invaded the Presidential Wing of the Government House in a commando-liked manner, ransacked it, intimidated and harassed the occupants, claiming that they were searching for bomb and documents!

One wonders when the Government House of Akwa-Ibom State turned to a factory where bombs are made. Also, we wonder why men of the DSS were overzealously looking for bomb in AkwaIbom State Government House, instead of the Boko Haram ravaged North Eastern part of Nigeria. Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in AkwaIbom State, Mr. Austin Okojie was picked up by men of the DSS in July.

The REC was detained and later asked to report daily to their office for interrogation. Interestingly, the DSS under Alhaji Lawal Daura that has turned Akwa Ibom State and other States into centre of its draconian operations has not deemed it necessary to invite for questioning, the Yobe State INEC REC, Mr. Abu Zarma in whose bank account N15 million alleged to be a bribe was found. From the barbaric act of the DSS yesterday and other actions of Security Service under Alhaji Lawal Daura in the last few weeks, one can conclude that Daura is taking Nigeriaback to the 1984 era of General MohammaduBuhari and this is unfortunate.

No doubt, the Director General (DG)DSS, Lawal Daura is acting out a sinister script of taking over Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) controlled States in the South-South and South East by whatever means. Obviously, Thursday invasion of the AkwaIbom Government House by men of the DSS and arrest of the State INEC REC are part of this sinister plotby the All Progressives Congress (APC) to circumvent the will of the people of the South-South and South-East States controlled by the PDP, using the DSS, but it will fail ultimately.

To say the least, invasion of the AkwaIbomState Government House on Thursday ordered by Daura, is a rape of democracy and invitation to chaos and anarchy. It is authoritarian, dictatorial and I condemn it strongly. It is unfortunate that this is happening under President Buhari’s watch, and painful that AlhajiLawal Daura is drawing Nigeria back to the Military era. If a GovernmentHouse occupied by a Governor who enjoys the same immunity enjoys by the President as provided by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria could be invaded by a Special Squad of the DSS, it means Lawal Daura is moving this country towards dictatorship and it must be said clearly that Daura and his DSS menwill definitely have Nigerians to contend with.

As for me, I will continue to talk because Nigeria belongs to all of us. Nigeria is not a banana republic that can be ruled anyhow by anyone and Mr Lawal Daura and those urging him on should know that this reign of brute force over constitutional democracy will fail. This is because we have seen them operate before and here they are now, trying to take us back to that inglorious era of dictatorship and barbarism where Nigerians were treated with contempt.

This time around, it is a democracy that can never accommodate that 1984 era of draconian rule. Most importantly, Lawal Daura and his desperate men should know that here in Nigeria of today, the power of the people is greater than the power of those in power and the people will always rise in defence of their government no matter how strong the aggression.

It is on this note that I call on President Buhari to call Alhaji Lawal Daura to order. He should be made to know that his activities since he assumed office as the DG DSS are of growing concern to Nigerians and that he is becoming extremely controversial. His actions as the DG DSS are regrettable, unfortunate, condemnable and unacceptable because he has come to symbolise dictatorship, which democracy abhors. Alhaji Lawal Daura should know that he is holding the office of DG DSS that he presently occupies in trust for all Nigerians and such office is not one that can be turned into instrument of political witch-hunt.

If Alhaji Daura continues with his use of the DSS to harass, intimidate and assault the constitution of Nigeria, President Buhari may have to show to Nigerians that he is not a party to the use of the
security agency to witch-hunt his political opponents by sacking the DG DSS.

Before The First Eastern Bomb: Declare Radio Biafra A Terror Organization

We have seen this before. This is how Boko Haram started. This is how MEND started. But this may be potentially much worse. We have a terror leader freely utilizing modern media tools comfortably for way too long; sowing seeds of terrorism and death into the hearts of vulnerable Nigerian youth embittered after 30 years of PDP and the party founders' plundering and destruction of Nigeria.

Listening to the publicly available archives from the past few days of the Radio Biafra show, since the deadly "shootout" at Onitsha on Sunday August 30th, one hears only the drums of war, or rather terror.

A caller calls-in and tells megalomaniacal Nnamdi Kanu, the radio host that he is ready to kill soldiers and their families. Another, Chinwendu calls-in from Abuja and tells the host that what he should do is give the order for Igbos in the Igbo states to start killing Hausa-Fulanis as a covert action; that this will precipitate a revenge in Nigeria (the zoo as they call it on the show) where the caller currently resides. The caller explains that "when they start killing us here it will cause the nation to erupt in chaos and this will make Igbos return to 'Biafra-land'."

It is the type of chaos that has happened in Nigeria's past and that some have suspected was triggered by Biafra zionists for the same reason–to push Igbos out of the rest of the country so they can fight for the secession from home. Even other terror in Nigeria has been suspected to be fueled by such mischievous persons with mission to cause chaos and trigger ethnic pogroms, Igbo exodus and a possible hate built secession.

Chukwuemeka Onyebuchi calls from Malaysia and discusses with host Nnamdi Kanu how they should be killing Nigerians one-for-one. "Blood to blood, fire to fire." He asks them to start a secret strategic plan off the air waves.
Another Biafra zionist calls the host and tells him that he is technically trained and has been researching how to make deadly weapons for the past 20 years. He, a technician and engineering graduate says he can make microwave lasers that can destroy armored tanks. He says he has a host of other deadly friends who are all ready to wage war against Nigeria.

In the chilling audio recording of September 31st, a certain Uchechukwu Madueke in London's Heathrow calls-in and tells Nnamdi that his brother who "spoke to Nnamdi yesterday" has left India for Nigeria and has promised to kill a random Hausa man. The caller who hails from Enugu says he knows his brother, Michael, that he will kill the Hausa person before he returns to India.

Nnamdi Kano continues to promote and promise these radio Biafran fanatics that he will meet them in secret as he travels the world and that soon they will "avenge" the deaths of "Biafrans." Kanu says he will kill Nigerian soldiers for what they have done and "trigger the collapse of the Nigeria, 'zoo'". Nnamdi Kanu, the radio host freely travels around the world and incites Igbo youth against the Nigerian state.

Radio Biafra is live on short wave, on the internet and on phone Apps. The march in Onitsha on August 30th that turned deadly had hundreds of "Indigenous People of Biafra," IPOB, participants. With the unscrupulous covert plans of Biafran zionists, it is highly plausible the protesters intentionally fired shots to trigger the chaos and deaths the group appears to desperately seek under the new government. It can be recalled Radio Biafra was in support of the Jonathan government and the former army chief, General Azubuike Ihejirika who has been accused of diverting army billions (USD) and allowed Boko Haram devastate the north of Nigeria.

It can also be recollected that the Oslo Norway terrorist, Anders Breivik in his manifesto detailed his support for pro-Biafran zionists. This Radio Biafra group may be more complicated and deadly than meets the eye.

In the past we have accused Nigeria's former Chiefs of Security, NSA Aliyu Gusau and NSA Sambo Dasuki for deliberately ignoring the signs of Boko Haram and MEND and allowing these terror groups to establish and fester. We believe the current NSA is tuned in to the radio station and the nation's intelligence department is tracking all these potential terrorists.

Radio Biafra must immediately be declared a terror organisation. The radio host must be internationally declared wanted for Interpol to arrest him. The Radio Biafra phenomenon cannot happen in any other country and it should not happen in ours. While the incident of August 30th must be investigated and justice must be served to all erring parties, this unfortunate event is not a reason for a declaration of terror on a sovereign nation, except by a lunatic mind who was hoping for and promoting such tragedy. Indeed Nnamdi Kanu aligned with Shekau in his September 31st broadcast, saying Boko Haram started out peacefully and that it was the Nigerian state that provoked them to arms as they have now provoked Radio Biafra.

The true grievances of Nigeria's Igbos must be addressed in reasonable fashion including options for regionalism if intellectual referendum proves the true desire, however the unscrupulous young terrorists and terror minded bad eggs must not be condoned. We must not wait once again till the bombs start exploding uncontrollably in the East before we act. We trust President Buhari to handle this, perhaps first greatest test effectively and exigently.

Police break into car to save infant locked inside, and are surprised by their discovery

Emergency personnel in Oakland, California, were quick to respond on Monday after receiving a call that an infant had been spotted in the back of a locked car, abandoned and still strapped into a car seat. Reports also indicated that the child was unresponsive. Authorities rushed to the scene and immediately smashed the car’s window to get to the baby. But when they entered the vehicle, they couldn’t believe what they found.
It was not a baby that had been left in the hot car, but an incredibly life-like doll.
It’s easy to see why first responders were confused, considering the doll was dressed in modern clothes, had been left strapped in an authentic car seat. It looked like this:

Though police say they’ve been unable to determine why the doll was left in the car seat, the Daily Mail reports that, due to its hyper-realistic quality, it may be a “reborn” doll.

The ‘Reborning Movement’ is a recently emerged subculture in which collectors ‘adopt’ artificial babies, often throwing birthday parties, building nurseries and, of course, strapping the dolls into car seats.
A single reborn doll can reportedly cost thousands of dollars.

Reborn or not, authorities insist that the response to the situation was appropriate, as “first responders’ number one priority is to ensure safety.”

Nigerian conman weeps as he's jailed in the UK for fraud

A Nigerian conman, Godwin Nwaofor, 36, funded his expensive lifestyle by cheating pensioners out of their life savings. He kept a 'suckers list' of potential victims to send bogus letters saying they had won the Australian Lottery.

The Nigerian national received around £1million from the scam and blew the money on luxury cars, gold jewellery and expensive champagne at top nightclubs in London.

Nwaofor was a ‘willing and enthusiastic lieutenant’ to the mastermind of the con, another Nigerian, Frank Onyechonam, who was nicknamed ‘Fizzy’ for his love of vintage champagne.
Onyeachonam was jailed eight years last year, after he was exposed as the chief player in the scam.
He drove a Maserati and fired bubbly corks across exclusive private members clubs as he lived a life of fantastic luxury on his victim’s life savings.
The scam started with a bogus letter to a vulnerable pensioner telling them they had won the Australian Lottery.
The letters were sent by a ‘lottery agent’ targeting mainly American pensioners informing them they had won a life-changing prize and requesting a modest sum to release the funds.
Believing they had won, victims were hooked into paying fees to release their ‘winnings’ through an agent who would demand ‘activation fees’ to release their cash.
In some cases, dupes set up businesses in an attempt to receive their winnings and became unwitting money mules laundering cash from other victims.

Nwaofor, a father of two, regularly switched addresses to avoid being caught.
One victim, a 76-year-old woman, who believed she had won $1.85m, tried to track down Nwaofor after the FBI told her she had fallen victim to a scam.
She flew to the UK and went to the address she had for Nwaofor, but found that he had already moved on to another address.
Judge Richard Hone QC said the evidence in the case, at Central Criminal Court, against Nwaofor was ‘overwhelming’ and showed him to be a proven liar.
‘You have a tendency to be dishonest in your dealings with landlords, agencies, the police, HMRC, and car hire firms’, he said.
‘You also moved addresses regularly to ensure your whereabouts remained a mystery.’
Police identified 406 victims from two notebooks found at Onyeachonam’s Canary Wharf penthouse when he was arrested.
They seized Louis Vuitton shoes, Gucci handbags, a collection of expensive watches and dozens of designer shoes, as well as 5,000 pictures of Onyeachonam flaunting his wealth at exclusive upmarket venues including the Guvnor Bar in Docklands, east London.

Detectives fear the scale of the fraud could even mushroom to £30million if all the details discovered in notebooks and emails can be traced to victims.
Nwaofor moved to the UK in January 2006 from Nigeria and soon married a German citizen.
He has two children with her, aged six and six-months-old.

He broke down in tears as he was jailed for 7 years yesterday morning, but the judge said he did not believe the remorse was genuine.
‘Just as a crocodile sheds its tears while devouring its prey, so the copious weeping in court is not hypocritical remorse but tears of frustration that in spite of your careful concealment, you have been well and truly rumbled’, the judge told him.
‘This Australian lottery scam has brought penury and debt to your victims who were ruthlessly milked of their hard earned savings.’
The judge said although ten victims were traced by prosecutors as having fallen for Nwaofor’s scam, but that was probably the ‘tip of the iceberg’.
‘Vast sums of cash you used to fund a luxury lifestyle, with top of the range hire cars, large watches, gold jewellery, expensive nightclubs’, said the judge.
‘It shows you made the best part of £1m yourself.’
Nwaofor, of Camberell Green, south London, was found guilty of conspiracy to defraud, converting criminal property, and acquisition of criminal property.
He will serve half his sentence in prison and the remaining part on licence and will also now face confiscation proceeds.

Graphic photo: Motorist buried alive by cult members in Lagos

A yet to be identified man was allegedly buried alive by some cult members in the Mushin area of Lagos state on Wednesday September 2nd. According to Punch, the young man was on his way to Oyingbo area of Lagos state when he was dragged down from a commercial bus at Total Busstop in Mushin. An eyewitness Jacobs Amos while giving an account of what happened said
"The man was in the bus when he was dragged out at Total bus stop. They brought him into Mushin and I immediately alerted the policemen from Alakara.
The police went to Adewusi Street, and searched the place for more than one hour, but they did not find anything. They patrolled the place and when they did not see anything, they left. Around 10pm when everybody had gone home, they brought the man to the Railway Line and push him from head down into a filled canal. Only his leg was sticking out.”he said
The police at Alakara police station were alerted and the body of the deceased was removed from the canal yesterday September 3rd. Residents of the area say the rival cult members in Oyingbo and Mushin have led to the death of a few people.

According to one of them who spoke on the condition of anonymity, one person was stabbed to death by rival cult group. They accuse the police in the area of being complicit in the matter
"The police in this area have been compromised. When we called them yesterday that someone had been captured around Oyewusi Street, an informant of the cultists whom we suspect work with the police, quickly alerted the guys and they left the place. They brought the victim to our side to make it look as if we are responsible for his death. Their plan is to set the Oyingbo boys against us and trigger a war.”one of them said

Wife's Arrest Ordered by Court over Asset of Her Late Husband

A Lagos High Court, sitting in Ikeja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a popular society lady, Princess Abiodun Folasade Madojutimi Omotade. The bench warrant was issued by Hon. Justice L.A.F Oluyemi, following the refusal of Omotade (defendant) to appear before it on contempt proceeding on Tuesday, July 21, 2015.

Princess Omotade is one of the two wives of late Mr. Olaseni Ayodeji Omotade who died in plane crash on 22nd of October, 2005, leaving the family without any will.

Grace Omotade, the first wife with three children (Oluwafumilayo, Oluwaseun and Onikepo), who claims to be the only legal wife and a matron packed out of her matrimonial home in annoyance when her late husband, who in his prime brought in Folasade whom she viewed as his mistress.

As at the time Olaseni died, Folasade, who was the only woman then in the house allegedly cornered all the properties and embarked on asset stripping, disposing all the properties and assets of late Olaseni without the knowledge of his first wife, Grace. The bubble burst when she attempted to dispose the family property at No.5A and 5B, Kayode Alli Street, Omole Phase I, Ikeja, Lagos.

Grace got a hint of the development and filed Suit No: ID/183M/2006 seeking an order restraining Folasade and her agents from selling, disposing off and/or leasing the property at Omole Phase I and an order directing and/or mandating the Registrar of the court and or the Deputy Sheriff to put the property under lock and key and deposit same with the Honourable court pending the determination of the case.

The order was granted by Hon Justice Williams Dawodu on July 10, 2006, wherein the Honourable judge ordered that parties shall maintain the status quo pending the determination of the interlocutory application. But the defendant went ahead to sell the said property in defiance of the court order for N55 million to Mr. Raphael Adeyemi and Mrs. Abimbola Aina, prompting the claimant to institute contempt of court proceeding against her.

The deed of sale was sealed and delivered by Princess Abiodun F.M. Omotade in the presence of Mr. Isaac Alabi, a baker at 1/3 Isaac Alabi Crescent and Modupe Ladele, a Lawyer at 14 Abimbola Street, Alapere.

Funny enough, the defendant, Folasade, is claiming that she remains the only surviving wife of the deceased with three children and that the first claimant, Grace, was a mere concubine and in the course of her co-habitation with the deceased claimed to have had 3 children for the deceased.

Folasade further stated that she was three months pregnant when she lost her husband and that she gave birth to a set of twin named Taiwo Oluwadamilare Omotade and Kehinde Ayooluwa Omotade on May 17, 2006 and that she currently has three children for the deceased, namely, Oyinkansola Omotade, Taiwo Oluwadamilare Omotade and Kehinde Ayooluwa Omotade.

The judge has issued a warrant for Folasade's arrest for contempt of court...
“It is hereby ordered: Order bench Warrant to be and same is hereby issued against the 1st defendant/contempnor, Miss Folasade Abiodun Adesokan, aka Mrs. Omotade, for her arrest by any enforcement agency/agent in Nigeria; and to remain in prison custody when apprehended till the next hearing date which is 23rd September, 2015, for hearing of the contempt proceedings.”
