Photos: Bono visits Nigeria for Povertyissexist campaign

The #povertyissexist campaign got a major boost as one of its founding members Bono of the U2 band flew in to join in on the campaign and remix of the strong girl song. The activities started with meetings with the civil society in company of ambassadors of the povertyissexist campaign which Omotola leads.


In the meeting were stronggirl and powerhouse Waje and Zimbabwean singer Selmor Mtukudzi . Bono then went with the very large delegation to the studio where they were joined by Dbanj ,Bankyw, tanzania's Diamond platinumz and cobhams.

There was also a media meet where Bono, Omotola, Dbanj, waje, Selmor and diamond platinumz answered questions on the campaign moderated by One's Dr sipho. A dinner reception was then held where Bono danced to music from Waje,Seyi shay,Dbanj and victoria kimani . The very well attended party had dignitaries from all works including MI, Dj jimmy Jatt, gbemi olateru- olagbegi ,tayo faniran of bba and CaptainE . Omotola who has been working with One on the povertyissexist campaign then reminded everyone to sign the petition which now has over 2million signatures and join the movement to end poverty in Africa by empowering more women.

Photo: Borno govt presents cash, materials to parents of Chibok girls

Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima hosted 90 parents of the missing Chibok girls at the State Government House in Maiduguri yesterday Saturday August 29th to convey President Buhari's message of reassurance that there daughters will be rescued.

The parents at the meeting were given N100, 000 each and some clothing items.
 “I met with the president last Thursday in Abuja and he directed that I should meet you and console you over the missing girls. The president urged me to extend his heart-felt greetings to you on the issue. The president assured me that the missing girls would soon be re-united with their families as efforts are being intensified to rescue them,’’ the governor said

See the kind of food served for lunch at an IDP camp in Maiduguri

Twitter user @Fatiskira shared the very sad photo above. This was the rice/stew served at lunch to those inhabiting the IDP camp. She also mentioned something about '5 dry catfish being used to cook a meal for 3500 persons.' Apparently, even funds meant for feeding at the camp are embezzled... 

Boko Haram suicide bomb coordinator, other frontline members arrested by DSS

The Department of Security Service has arrested 21 alleged commanders and front-line members of the Boko Haram terrorist group including the group's suicide bomb attacks coordinator. A statement signed by Mr Tony Opuiyo, DSS spokesperson, states that the sect members were arrested in different parts of the country from July 8th to August 25th.


"They include those allegedly responsible for the coordination and execution of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria and Jos who were arrested on July 8 in Gombe State. Usman Shuaibu a.k.a money, said to be the co-ordinator of the suicide attacks, Ahmed Mohammed also known as Abubakar, an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) expert, who is said to have prepared the IEDs for the attacks. Others are Adamu Abdullahi, Ibrahim Isa, who allegedly carried out reconnaissance on targets in the Jos attacks, and Mutaqqa Yusuf who is said to have assisted Usman Shuaibu in planning and executing the attacks. Shaibu and his group were intercepted on their way to Bauchi State, where they had planned to execute another bomb attack".
12 other suspects are said to have been arrested in Lagos State, while three were apprehended in Enugu, Gombe and Kano States.

After the cut, you will find photos of some of the children who died when 430 migrants from Nigeria, Syria and others of various African, Middle Eastern and Eastern nationalities capsized around five to 10 miles off Zuwara, close to the Tunisian border on Wednesday, 26 August.



Meanwhile authorities in the coastal town of Zuwara arrested three Libyan nationals aged between 21 and 29 in connection with a tragedy. The men, all from Zuwara, were arrested late on Thursday, around 24 hours after the wooden boat they allegedly loaded with more than 430 migrants capsized.

They are 21-year-old Alyasse Krshman, Ayoub Askeer, 32 and 26-year-old Nasem Azzbi. Police arrested the men following information relayed by survivors. They are being held by the Security Council of Zuwara. Officers there made the men hold up pictures of dead children recovered from the coast between Thursday and Friday.
