Photos: 15yr old girl prepares for her wedding to a 32 yr old man in Bangladesh

It should be happiest day of her life, but 15-year-old Nasoin Akhter couldn't look more miserable because she is being forced into marriage to a 32-year-old man. As these images show, the Bangladeshi schoolgirl appears forlorn and, at times, even scared as she gets ready for the ceremony in Manikganj, near the capital Dhaka.

Sadly, Nasoin is by no means alone in a country which has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world. Since the turn of the century, there have been more than 3,000 acid attacks in the country.

According to the Acid Survivors Foundation in Bangladesh, almost all the attacks have been on women or girls while many of the victims are under 18.

The main reason for the violence is dowries, refusal of love proposals, or land disputes.

Arik Air staff nabbed with cocaine at Hearthrow airport

A flight attendant with Arik Air was yesterday night arrested at Heathrow Airport, London for allegedly possessing 2.76 kilogramme of a substance suspected to be cocaine. The man has been identified as Chika Egwu Udensi. Spokesman of the airline, Mr. Ola Adebanji, in a statement released today, said the airline is presently investigating the matter. 'I beat my wife for refusing to have sex with me' 40 year old man tells court

A man named Salau Kehinde who was accused of beating his wife told a Customary Court in Ikorodu, Lagos that he indeed physically abuses his wife whenever she refuses to have sex with him.

His wife, Shakirat approached the court seeking for dissolution of their 10-year old marriage that has produced two children. This was because of his continuous assault anytime she returned from work and refused to have sex because she was either too tired or for other reasons.

According to a report by Vanguard, the woman requested that the court dissolve their marriage and grant her custody of the children. Reacting to the wife’s accusation, Kehinde accepted the claim that he used to beat her whenever she denied him sex and if she came home late from her trading business.

He said, “She refuses to cook for me when she is pregnant. She also said I should look for another wife.”

He however promised to stop beating or threatening her and will take her back if she wants to stay with him. The Court adjourned the case for possible reconciliation.

Former NSA Dasuki denies arms charges

Nigeria's ex National Security Adviser Dasuki Sambo has denied charges of illegally possessing weapons and committing acts posing potential harm to national security. The Department of state security DSS yesterday August 24th charged the former NSA to court over allegations of wrongful possession of firearms without license.

A source close to the former NSA who spoke with BBC Hausa this morning, said Dasuki insists the weapons found in his house during a recent search were for the use of soldiers guarding his house.
