Amaechi Can Be Probed, Court Gives Wike's Govt Clearance

Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed the suit filed by former governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to probe his administration.

The current governor, Nyesom Wike, had constituted the Justice George Omereji-led judicial commission of inquiry to probe the sale of assets belonging to the state by the Amaechi administration.

But Amaechi had gone to court to challenge the setting up of the commission of inquiry.

But Justice Simeon Amadi, who delivered judgment in the suit, affirmed that the judicial commission of inquiry was not established to investigate the personal activities of the former governor.

Justice Amadi added that the commission was established to investigate the previous actions of government as they affected the people of the state.

According to him, Wike, by the provisions of the law, is empowered to establish the judicial commission of inquiry to investigate previous actions of government.

Justice Amadi specifically said that there was no law preventing a state government from finding out how the state’s resources were spent.

On his part, former governor Amaechi has, however, revealed that he left N10billion for Wike.

Soldiers Carry Out Buhari's Order, Destroy Oil Bunkering Sites, Arrests Big Boys

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, has arrested 21 suspected oil thieves, among whom are some known big boys, and destroyed oil bunkering sites in multiple raids.

This was revealed by Lt.-Col. Ado Isa, Media Coordinator of JTF, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He said the raids were conducted within 10 days.

Isa said that troops deployed to
Oka pipeline in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo impounded an illegal oil bunkering truck with registration number EDO BEN 117 ZN.

He said that the truck loaded with 16 plastic tanks of 1500 litres capacity was siphoning illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at the time of arrest.

The JTF spokesman said the products estimated to be about 24,000 litres were suspected to have been illegally siphoned from the NNPC pipeline.

He added that some of the vandals fled prior to the arrival of the troops while the truck was in the custody of the JTF for further investigation.

He said some of the arrested were made at Ughelli-Warri and Orerokpe Community in Okpe and Ughelli North Local Government Areas of Delta.

Naija Ashawo Girls On Strike

I read with amazement the story on how no fewer than 2,000 commercial s*x workers in Awka, the Anambra State capital, have concluded plans to commence their strike action against the state government.

It means prostitution is legalised in that state. Their leader was even reported to pointing accusing finger at the government officials as their best customers who throw money at them.

The leader of the prostitutes screamed, “They want me to expose them?”

Awka with only about 301,000 population in 2006 has over 2,000 prostiutes in one group. This is more than the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible.

The Anambra State Government should allow the strike for everlasting, and that would be the best thing that can happen to the state. It is the handiwork of God.

British family photographs kids with beach buoy that was actually a bomb

A family beach outing turned terrifying last week when what was thought to be a washed-up buoy turned out to be an active bomb.
"My children took their boogie boards down and we were going out to the sea," Kelly Gravell of Burry Port, Wales, said. "We saw a large object on the beach, so we thought we’d have a little look.

"We get things washed up all the time, so we thought it was a buoy. We never thought for one second it was a bomb."
Gravell told ABC News she, her husband, and two young children went to their local beach for a picnic on Aug. 12, when the kids noticed something wash onto the sand.
That's when, she said, Erin, 6, and Ellis, 4, began posing for photos with the huge metal ball.
"We were more fascinated by the barnacles on it," Gravell added. "My son was touching it and was knocking on it a little bit, and that was it really."
Five days later, Pembrey Country Park officials announced on their Facebook page that the “buoy” discovered on the seashore was a United States military mine bomb.
Gravell said she and her husband, Gareth, were notified of the news by a friend who saw photos of their children with the bomb on Facebook.
"The realization that it was a bomb -- it was completely shocking for us," she said. "We realize now just how lucky we were."
Allison Thomas-David, press and communications officer for Carmarthenshire County Council, said it's common for objects to wash ashore in the area where the mine was found.
"It very much looks like a buoy, which we get on the regular, but around it was gooseneck barnacles," she said. "Of course as the barnacles started dropping off, that’s when we could see writings exposed."
The object reportedly dates back to World War II.
While she could not verify what was printed on the bomb, or what kind of bomb it was, Thomas-David said it still remained clear that the object was indeed an explosive.
"This was picked up by the coastguard who then notified the bomb squad," she added. "Obviously we evacuated the beach straightaway. It detonated in a controlled explosion 6 p.m. Monday evening."
Gravell said she and her family went down to watch the detonation together.
She added that in light of their experience, they will be more mindful of foreign items that wash up onto the beach.

Photo: EFCC arrests suspected serial fraudster for N3.29bn fraud

Press statement from EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, August 19, 2015 arrested a suspected serial fraudster, Dr. Kunle Adeshola, who issued a forged draft to the tune of N3.29billion, in a phony land deal.
The suspect, who presented himself as Director, Corporate and Management Service, Amazon Inc., had allegedly entered a contract with Atkan Services Nigeria Limited for the purchase of 50 units of flats in different locations within the FCT, Abuja
and subsequently presented a Deutsche Bank, "bank draft" no 081758 in the sum of $19.930, 900.00 purportedly drawn by Deutsche Bank in favour of Infinity Trust Savings and Loans Limited. But the draft was returned unpaid after Stanbic IBTC Plc, discovered it was forged and reported the fraud to the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The apex bank consequently reported the matter to the EFCC. It will be recalled that the suspect had earlier been arrested and prosecuted by EFCC for claiming to be an Assistant Commissioner of Police seconded by the Commission to the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, NTDC, to cleanse the rot in the agency.
Adeshola, who had claimed to be Head of the EFCC Chairman's Monitoring Unit was charged to court on a seven-count bordering on forgery, impersonation, and obtaining by false pretence before Justice Usaini Baba Yusuf of the FCT High Court, Abuja. Justice Yusuf, however, struck out the charges on the grounds that they were not related to financial crimes, a ruling that has since been challenged at the appellate court by the EFCC.
EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
