Saraki’s Move Against Senate Forgery Suit Dismissed, Case Transfered To No-Nonsense Judge
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Wednesday rejected a complaint
by Senate President, Bukola Saraki against a suit seeking to sack him
and other principal officers of the Senate elected under the
controversial Senate Standing Orders 2015.
His lawyer, Sikiru Oke told the court that he appeared for the Senate President “in protest” and has not filed “memorandum of appearance” which must be filed before a lawyer could enter appearance for a party.
But the judge, Justice Kolawole disqualified Mr Oke from appearing for Saraki during the proceedings. He directed that the case be transferred to another judge, Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who will take over as the vacation judge of the Federal High Court in Abuja on August 10.

The proceedings were in relation to a suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/651/2015
filed by senators who are opposed to the emergence of Saraki as the
Senate President.
They are Senators Abu Ibrahim, Kabir Marafa, Ajayi Boroffice, Olugbenga Ashafa and Suleiman Hunkuni. Defendants to the suit are Saraki, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; the National Assembly, the Clerks of the National Assembly and the Senate.
The plaintiffs seek among other prayers and order nullifying the Senate Standing Orders 2015 as well as the election of Saraki as the Senate President and that of Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President, for being products of the alleged illegal rules.
Justice Gabriel Kolawole had at the last hearing on July 28, 2015, adjourned the case to Wednesday for the hearing of the plaintiffs’ motion on notice seeking an order restraining Saraki and other defendants from going ahead to constitute the standing committees of the Senate pending when their suit challenging the validity of the Senate Standing Orders 2015 is determined.
Mr. Oke contended that court processes in the case were served on his office instead of being served personally on his client, as prescribed the Federal High Court Rules 2009.
But Plaintiffs’ lawyer, Dele Adesina (SAN), in a counter argument, contended that there are obligatory provisions of the same court rules which envisages and validates service on Saraki through his office.
Mr. Adesina also argued that Oke could not be heard since he had yet to file memorandum of appearance to appear for the first defendant (Saraki).

UNILAG Lecturer R*pes Female Student Seeking Admission
The police in Lagos State have arrested a part-time lecturer in UNILAG,
Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly r*ping an 18-year-old girl, identified
simply as Caroline (real names withheld) in the Yaba area.
The young girl, who is just 18-year-old, was reportedly r*ped inside one of the study rooms in the institution, while she was seeking admission into the University of Lagos, Akoka.
But the story is not very straight. Looks like the girl agreed. The lecturer told the police in his statement that the s*xual act was by mutual consent, insisting that he did not r*pe her...
According to Punch, Baruwa was arrested by the Surulere Police Division on Monday, August 3.
It was learnt that Baruwa allegedly took the girl inside a study room, bolted the door, and r*ped her.
It was learnt that after the incident, Caroline, who told her parents about the incident, was taken to an NGO, Mirabel Centre, where she was tested.
The medical result reportedly confirmed that the teenager was violated.
Caroline was thereafter taken to the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, and the matter was reported at the police station. Baruwa was subsequently arrested.
The Director of the Office of the Public Defender, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said the OPD would write a letter to the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor on the incident, so as to ensure that such did not reoccur.
She said, “We are going to defend the girl. The suspect is said to be in the Department of Accounting. He claimed the s*x was consensual, but that is not a defence.”
Baruwa, who was in custody, would be charged to court on Thursday. He maintains the act is consensual.
But Lagos State Police PRO, DSP Patricia Amadin, said “the suspect claims to be a part-time lecturer, but not an employee of the University of Lagos. He has confessed to the crime and the medical result proved same.”

Nigerian man allegedly beats his own mother to death in Texas
Mother of four, Hauwa Esther Kadima, 61, who was an accomplished
professor of languages, and a published author, was bludgeoned to death
at her home in Longview, Texas, on July 28th. Her last child, 31 year

Finally, CBN bans All Foreign Currency Deposits to Save Naira
In its frantic efforts to save the Naira from further humiliation by the
Dollar and other currency, the Central Bank of Nigeria has banned the
payment of cash into domiciliary accounts all over Nigeria.
In a circular on Wednesday signed by the Director of Trade and Exchange, CBN, Olakanmi Gbadamosi, the apex bank said its action followed recent statements by individual banks suspending the payment of foreign currencies into domiciliary accounts.
Gbadamosi wrote, “The Central Bank of Nigeria has considered the recent statements by Deposit Money Banks concerning the large volume of foreign currencies in their vaults and the decision to stop accepting foreign currency cash deposits into customers’ domiciliary accounts as a welcome development.
“Therefore, in its continued efforts to stop illicit financial flows in the Nigerian banking system which aligns with the anti-money Laundering stance of the Federal Government, the CBN hereby prohibits from the date of this circular the acceptance of foreign currency cash deposits by DMBs.
“For foreign currency cash lodgements made prior to the date of this circular, the account holder has the option to either withdraw his or her foreign currency cash or the Naira equivalent. For the avoidance of doubt, only wire transfers to and from Domiciliary Accounts are henceforth permissible.
“The CBN advises individuals that wish to source foreign currency for eligible and legitimate purposes such as BTA, PTA medical, mortgage, school fees, goods etc. to do so through recognised channels with the use of Form ‘A’ for “invisible” and Form ‘M’ for ‘visible’ transactions. By this circular, those who deposited foreign currencies into their accounts before the directive will now have to withdraw the cash as they are not going to be allowed to transfer the funds.”

AMAECHI: Governor Wike Has Been Put To Shame
...Rivers APC hails Nigerians for celebrating Ex-Governor’s legacies
The Caretaker Governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyesom Wike, has been put to shame by the large crowd of Nigerians from all walks of life who gathered at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, on Monday to honour the immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and celebrate his legacies.
“By turning out in large numbers to honour Ex-Governor Amaechi and through their touching testimonies at that grand reception put together by Amaechi’s Committee of Friends, Nigerians have spoken with one loud voice, shaming Chief Nyesom Wike, who has devoted the past two months of his illegal occupation of the Government House in Port Harcourt to wage an unnecessary war against the man who made him politically in a desperate bid to tarnish his reputation,”

the Rivers State Chapter of APC said in a statement signed by the Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.
The party condemned Wike’s witch-hunting of Amaechi, noting that it is a classic case of one biting the finger that once fed him. “We are, however, not perturbed by Wike’s antics because, as we have pointed out time without number, the Caretaker Governor is hounding an innocent man and his efforts to rubbish and pull down Amaechi, who is his political mentor, will turn out to be futile,” Rivers APC said.
It drew Wike’s attention to the testimonies of important political leaders at the reception for Amaechi, all of whom acknowledged the former Rivers State Governor to be an incorruptible Nigerian patriot. “We are grateful to Nigerians for taking their stand on the side of the truth on the Amaechi issue. Our special thanks go to President Muhammadu Buhari for his continued confidence in Amaechi, as well as to Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, his Plateau State counterpart, Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, President Buhari’s wife, Aisha Buhari, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, for publicly identifying with Amaechi and testifying to his unimpeachable character,” Rivers APC said.
It advised Wike to bury his head in shame as the overwhelming positive declarations in Amaechi’s favour means that his plot to pull down his predecessor has hit the rocks as earlier predicted by the party.

Female Artist Protest Against Slavery With Nudity
In memory of African slaves, Ms Nona Faustine, a black artiste in
America, has gone to different spots in New York to pose n*de as a way
of protesting over African slaves who were sold in the 18th century at
those spots. She says her going n*de shows the vulnerability of the
slaves sold there and the violence against humanity that still troubles
the nation till date. The pictures are too graphic, I can't post all.
