UNIBEN students protest the death of classmate allegedly knocked down by military van
On Sunday morning July 19th, Rita Awele (pictured above) was tragically
hit & killed (allegedly) by a military patrol van along the
Lagos-Benin Expressway. The 18 year old 200 level Philosophy student was
either going to or returning from church when she was knocked down and
killed. The driver didn't even stop. Another person who was knocked down
by the van is still in hospital
Students of the school this morning blocked vehicular movement on the Lagos-Benin road, protesting her death. They are asking for speed bumps or flyovers to be mounted in front of the school gate.
1. Speed brakes must be provided. Construction of overhead bridge at Uniben main gate (Standard one with street light).
2. The reckless driver must be prosecuted.
3. Awele Rita's family must be duly compensated.

"The school is located along Lagos-Benin expressway and this is a major problem for students staying off campus trying to get into the school as cars, buses, trucks and trailers are always on high speed plying that route. A pedestrian bridge was there before but it was taken down during the reconstruction of the Lagos-Benin expressway and they didn't put it back." a student told LIBThe students say 3 point agenda must be met by the SUG President
"We are using this opportunity to tell the government to construct a fly over or a road break around our school gate." another one said

"We protested to register our displeasure over the negligence of Govt and the school management to the repeated appeals for some speed breakers on the Benin-Lagos high way until their bureaucracy has led to the death of another student. Rita was a student like us, someone's sister, someone's bestie, a mother's pride, hope and joy" another student said

As Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’ to end the madness of Boko Haram if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation. EXPOSED: Governor Wike Visits CJN Twice Secretly
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is said to have visited to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, at the Supreme Court in Abuja, twice this month.
One of the visits to the CJN, it was learnt, coincided with the day the Rivers State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, conducted hearing in an application filed by Wike to challenge an order permitting his opponent to inspect the electoral materials used for the poll that brought him to office.
Investigations showed that the visits were made without prior appointments.
The election of the controversial former minister of state, who ran for the governorship on the platform of the PDP, is being challenged by the candidate of the APC, Dr. Dakuku Peterside.
The Rivers State Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal had on July 9 reaffirmed its ex parte order made on June 11, 2015, granting permission to Peterside, to inspect the electoral materials used for the poll.
The Justice Muazu Pindiga-led tribunal had in a ruling dismissed Wike’s application asking for the setting aside of the June 11, 2015 order. The judge also adjourned till July 22 for the commencement of the pre-hearing session in the petition.
Wike is however denying that his visit to the CJN had anything to do with his case.
According to Punch, Wike did not meet the CJN on his first visit, which was a Monday. The number one judicial officer in the country was said to have travelled to Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj.
Wike however repeated the visit two days later, when he was able to meet and discuss with the CJN.
In fact, members of staff in the office of Mohammed were shocked to see the governor.
Why should a governor with a running case at the tribunal visit the CJN without any appointment?

Buhari will probe Jonathan's government - Presidency
In an interview with Vanguard, presidential media adviser Femi Adeshina confirmed that president Buhari is planning to probe the administration of former president Goodluck Jonathan
He (Buhari) has said it that money in billions of dollars will be recovered. But you know the world is too small a place for anybody to hide if you are running from justice. You will be fished out. So, there is no need that you say they should not be heading for jail if eventually the law goes after them. Very few countries can they hide in and how long will they hide? So, it doesn’t mean that anybody that has ill gotten wealth will not regurgitate it. They will. Remember when he went to Germany for the G7 summit, he met with President Obama and Obama told him to just give us information on where the loot is hidden and we will help you recover it and the government has been working on that. So, that shows that looters will never go free" he said
Asked if Buhari plans to probe administrations before GEJ, Adeshina said
"He can’t afford to go too deep into the past or else it will be destructive for his administration. There are some things you can’t close your eyes to while you don’t want to shine the torchlight into the dark recesses of our past; immediate past where things are evident. The Yoruba have a saying that the corpse we buried, the leg is sticking out and, if you bury a corpse and the leg is sticking out, you can’t pretend. When there are trails all over of the monies in billions and trillions, then a responsible government can’t close its eyes to that.
