Man arrested for taking photos of bribe collecting policemen in Lagos

A young man, Thompson Ntiedo residing in Lagos was yesterday June 23rd arrested by police officers attached to the Okota Police Station for taking photos of a police man collecting bribe from a motorist in the Okota area in Lagos.

According to The Nation, Thompson was detained for three hours, released on bail at about 9pm with his two phones confiscated after he was forced to delete all the pictures he took. Narrating his ordeal, Thompson said:

"I was in a commercial bus when we got to the area and one of the policemen on the road was demanding that our driver bribe him. I brought out my phone and captured him and they saw me. They dragged me out of the bus and seized the phone I used to take the pictures. They said I was under arrest but I begged that they should delete the pictures and release me but they refused. The next thing, they called the station and a patrol van appeared and they demanded that I enter because the DPO wants to see me.
When we got there, they didn’t take me to meet the DPO neither did they release me. I was there from 6pm to 9pm. Afterwards, they asked me to go home and report back by 9am the following day ( Wednesday ). But before I was released, I had to call one of my brothers with my second phone to come and bail me. Meanwhile, before I left that night, they also seized the second phone from me and I went home without any of my phones. I got there Wednesday by 9am and waited till 2:40pm before my second phone was released. This was after the human rights officer intervened in my case and asked them to let me go. Even at that, the policeman handling my case went to Ikeja to submit my report and so I had to wait till he got back for my phones to be released.”he said

Mariah doesn't waste time ... just days after she hopped on a yacht with new billionaire BF James Packer, they're already talking marriage.  Our Mariah sources say it's insane ... they've been "dating" for just a matter of days, but he's already told her he wants to marry her, sooner rather than later. The soonest can be when she's officially divorced from Nick Cannon. But we're told Mariah is open to tying the knot with James.
We got this photo of Mariah and James on the boat, wearing matching robes ... almost like they're on a honeymoon.
They've been cruising from country to country since late last week, and James blared Mariah's music for everyone to hear, including all the people on vastly smaller boats.
We broke the story ... James is obsessed with Mariah and her music. He went to her concert in Vegas a month-and-a-half ago and has been pursuing her ever since.

Useful Security intelligence when using alternative banking channels

With the rise in the use of alternative banking channels like ATMs, mobile apps, internet & mobile banking, fraudsters have also become smarter in using these channels to dupe innocent people. There are security intelligence when using alternative banking channels. Here are some tips to ensure that you do not become a victim of desperate fraudsters;

·         Familiarize yourself with the look and feel of the ATM key pad where you punch in your details. Be alert for scratches, marks, adhesive, unusual join marks anywhere on the ATM. Also watch out for any tape residue or sticky material on ATMs. If you notice any of these signs on an ATM, do not use.
·         Avoid using an ATM machine that has its security cameras installed so close that it records your PIN. If the camera is looking at how you input your PIN in the ATM, do not use.
·         Never use an ATM machine when other people are loitering, hanging over your shoulders, or straining their neck to see what you are doing. Do not accept help from strangers or even bank security to retrieve an ATM card stuck in an ATM machine. If your card is stuck, report to the bank.
·         Do not use ATM machines with extra signage or warnings posted on the machine, especially when it does not have the bank’s logo or the logo of a host you can identify.
·         Never keep a written copy of your PIN or internet banking password in your wallet or purse as it could be stolen. The safest store house for your PIN or Internet Banking passwords is your head.
·         Lastly, if a point of sale terminal shows signs of possible tampering, for example having a ‘Press Hard' sticky note, do not use. Also do not use a POS terminal if the security seal is punctured, creased, folded, or cut, or if wires are visible through the ventilation slot.
ATM thieves, unlike armed robbers, do not carry guns. But what they can do to a person’s bank account if they hit it, can be just as bad the effect of armed robbers. You have a duty to stay alert and avoid small mistakes that expose you to their dirty tricks. Once you are able to do this, your banking experience should be safe and secure.
